is it normal

posted 18th Jul '12
Is it normal to be 38 weeks not dilated at all. Hes still high and movements have been getting less and less everyday. I go twice a week for a nst his heart rate was fine but on Monday i had a bpp ultrasound which showed his breathing at a 6 out of 8. They sent me to L&D where they monitored him for awhile and he finally reacted to the nst but his breathing still wasnt where the doctor at my office wanted it to be but the doctor on call said it was fine and sent me home. I go tomorrow for another nst im just nervous as I type this. Guess its the first time mom in me

I wasn't dilated at all at 38 weeks. When I was admitted to the hospital I was only a finger tip dilated, not even at a one yet.

A friend of mine got checked one morning, not dilated at all, and went into labor that night. It really can mean NOTHING, so don't worry.

Thanks ladies guess its just nerves they really don't say much. Just that I have a small pelvic bone and baby is about 6.5 lbs and his heart rate is ok but concerned about his breathing that's what really worries me. Hopefully tomorrow i get some news

Its not uncommon to not start dilating at all until you're in labor. Many women with their first baby end up starting from nothing...on the flip side, you can walk around dilated to a 4 for weeks without anything happening so dilation really doesn't mean much. I had a friend who was dilated to a 4 by 38 weeks and didn't go into labor until 42 weeks on the nose...and I have other friends that were closed up tighter than a pickle jar one day and the next were in the hospital giving birth. I, personally, contracted for 4 days and when I finally ended up in L&D because my water sack had a tear, I was only barely dilated to a 1...sometimes your body just needs a reason to open up and let the cupcake out of the oven. Hang in there. You'll be fine. Sounds like your doctors are doing a good job watching out for you.
