I have always been working my whole life until March of this year! Due to poor management, unprofessionalism, etc etc I resigned! A month later i became pregnant!

Does anyone have advice? I am looking for a job however i would have to ask for maternity leave. I also Have medical problems so if i find a job i would be asking for a lot of time off.. Im stuck dont know what to do!
I have enough money to pay rent and get by, but I want more for myself and my child especially because its my first child!! Help!

I would first figure out how to get appropriate insurance...whether you can use COBRA from your prior job or not is up to you. Then, if you are concerned about getting another job and just having to take a leave or quit altogether, maybe you could do temp work? I have some friends who have had really good luck with the temp agencies during their pregnancies. Its not 100% surefire, because the work is intermittent, but usually they worked 4 or 5 days a week, and one of them even got a job for 3 months while she worked for a lady who was on maternity leave from her job. Good luck to you!

I definatly wouldnt go in there saying you'll be needing time off.....first things first...get the job...then worry about time off later. I used to hire people for my old job, and if someone came in and said "I'm pregnant, and Im going to want maternity leave and I also have medical problems and will need alot of time off" (not to be rude) I'd say "Thanks for coming in." and go on to the next resume.   I dont want to sound harsh, but really, I wouldnt mention that stuff in an interview.

I would find something as soon as possible. Don't tell them that you are pregnant yet. Get the job first, prove yourself, and then tell them. Although they aren't supposed to, a lot of jobs won't hire you if you are pregnant.
Good luck!

I totally agree. I worked in HR for several years, and even though there are EEO laws to protect people in these types of situations, it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Unfortunately, nobody is dying to hire a pregnant woman 1) because she will eventually need maternity leave, 2) may need more time off for appointments, symptoms, etc. and 3) could be a liability should anything go wrong with the pregnancy (i.e. in a physical type of job or something of that nature).

At 6 weeks, nobody would ever know you were pregnant, so I would definitely keep it a little secret until you are about 20 weeks or you start showing, whichever comes first. You're not obligated to share that information anyway.

I'm 19 weeks. 17. I had to resign for my job due to the fact they had cut our hours down to about 9 hours a week, which wasn't enough to pay for gas to get there.

It's so hard finding a job when you're only avaliable after school, when you're pregnant and unable to work in heavy lifting. I also am not graduating till june sixth and i'm not eighteen till july.

It's amazing how hard it is to find a job... But it happens when the economy is in recession.

I'm 17 and 27 weeks pregnant ... I've been working at a local donut shop part-time since I was about 10 weeks. I walk there and back, and work about 4 four-hour shifts a week, during which I have to start the whole gosh darn time and am confined to the front of the shop. But it's worth it, I only make about $120 or so a week, but luckily I'm able to save almost all of it- and I've already saved 2k since I started. Your job doesn't have to be spectacular, you're going to be going on maternity leave anyways, and once baby is born you can reaccess your working situation. This is only a temp. job for me because after I deliver (after about 6 months) I'm starting community college and will hopefully have a better job. Swallow your pride and find a job that will hire you, that you can deal with, and that will pay- and make that money for baby!

PS- I would NOT tell anyone you're pregnant, I didn't until I was about 5 months.
