not pooping

My little guy is four weeks now and has been crying cause he is so gassy. He also hasn't pooped since yesterday afternoon . He is breastfed . Should I help him with his thermometer and see if it will help? He is so upset I feel bad

Is he wetting enough diapers? Sometimes BF babies don't always poop every day , but a call to his Dr would not hurt since he is only 4 weeks.

As long as he is getting enough wet diapers throughout the day he should be fine. Exclusively breastfed babies can go up to a week between poops. If you want to stimulate his butt with a thermometer, or a wipe and just wipe his butt, then its ok, but I wouldnt do it every day because babies will get use to the stimulation in order to poop. Buy some gas drops and use those... bring babies knees up to his chest a few times and rub his tummy, that should help with gas too.

What we were told was to use the thermometer as a last resort and if you havent done it before you might want the Dr to show you how. I know they didn't want us using it all the time because it can weaken their own ability to poop without help.

Have you tried massages on the tummy and working his legs to help with gas and all? I found this helped relieve some pain for DD before she was finally able to go.

Ya I've done that and he just throws up  

in the nicu my son went 8 days without pooping and they said it was normal...we fast forward several months and hes at home and in terrible pain after 2 days of no poop so we did a trick my mom said worked with me. 2-3 drops of dish soap half a cup of warm water and an eye dropper. mix the soap and water and squirt a tiny bit up his bum pull his knees up and rub his cheecks together and then step back!!!!!

My daughter (5 weeks) only poops every 3-5 days and by day 3 she is in so much pain i do the I love you massage( look it up on youtube) and diluted prune juice half ounce of juice one ounce of water and she always poops within 2 hrs after i do that .
