6 week old questions

my little man (Chase) is 6 weeks old i had him two weeks early due to IUGR. he was 4lb 13oz when he was born therewas nothing wrong with him other then his size, at his last apointment he was 5lb 14oz, he has his 6 week appointment tomorrow to see how much he is now. my question is how much formula should he be drinking. normally he drinks 3oz every two to three hours, but it sometimes take about half hour to fortyfive minutes to feed him cause he always falls asleep. right now he uses the slow flow nipples should i change the bottle flow so he drinks more before he falls asleep. another question sometimes when he is eating he gets fussy like something is hurting him. i will pull the bottle out of his mouth for a second the give it back to him and he is fine for a few minutes then it starts all over again. i was wondering if that could be a sign of acid relax, or could he just be gassy he also has wet burps and arches his back when he eats. right now we have him sleep in his bouncy set cause he does not seem to like sleeping flat on his back and he sleeps better in it. as anyone else had this with their baby. also i know that babys are normally awake for only short periods of time but he sometimes will stay awake for 4 hours at a time normally at least once a day is that normal.

Your baby probably needs to burp.

i burp him after every ounce. there are times that he dont burp after burping him for about 5min but he will burp the next time i burp him.

My son does the same thing when he eats. He does have gas issues. We give him gas drops and we use sensitive formula but he still is fussy while he eats. We stop to burp him quite a few times through feeding. I had my son 5 weeks early and we had the same problem when he was first born always falling asleep when he was eating. We just always completely undressed him and kinda messed with him to keep him awake. We still use the slow flow nipple if we didnt he tends to drink way to fast and spit up. Our sons are right around the same age and my LO is doing better with staying awake while eating. Hopefully the older he gets the more awake and alert he will be while eating. My son eats 4oz every 3 hours but he is bigger. Even tho he was 5 weeks early he was 6lb1oz and now is over 10lb. He does stay awake sometimes. I think its normal to not always sleep right after every feeding.

my son was 4 weeks ealry and he was 5 pounds 13 oz he only eat 3 oz every 2 to 3 hours and had all the same things you are saying the wet brup fussing well eatting i couldnt put him down without him crying truned out he has acid relfex they put him on meds for it and now he is great he is 3 month old now est 6 ozs every 3 hours loves playing on the floor and doesnt cry from pain anymore he also sleep from 8 pm to 8 am everynight now instead of up every 2 hours from pain

Sounds like reflux

thank you for your replys he went to his appointment today and gained 3lb and is now at 8lb his doc said he has a touch of acid refux and for now he just wants to monitor it. and if it gets worse we can add alittle cereal to his bottle. he want us to add alittle more formula to his bottle seeing as how he is on gentlease formula due to the fussing and not on the preemie formula so he can get the extra colories.
