Chicken Pox After The Vaccine?

posted 12th May
Caleb had his MMR and Chicken Pox vaccines today. His ped said that he would probably get either a measles or chicken pox rash in 1-2 weeks. So i was wondering how many of your children got either after the vaccine and how bad was it? How long did it last? If your child has eczema did it make the eczema worse? Any other experiences with the vaccine are welcomed as well!
The ped said it wouldn't be as bad as if he were to get it on his own.
Thanks ladies!

With maddy she didnt have any problems with her mmr shot , she spiked a low grade fever but thats about it , no rash .. as for the chicken pox vacc... I had them wait until she was 18 months old for that one . I felt like at her year shots it was way to much for her all at one time , and the pedi told me that it was fine to space them out .. But good luck with everything ..

Thanks. He has 2 more shots to get at 18 months. I should have waited on one of the ones from today. He got 4. I felt so bad for him!

What was so bad about chicken pox??

Having chicken pox was the one of the best things that happened to me...I got to spend a week w.my grandmother before she passed...I never would have had that time if not for the chicken pox...

Thank you, chicken pox...

I'm glad you got to have that chance! I'm not saying anything's bad with chicken pox. I'm just wondering what to expect with it. I know I got them when I was little, but I was 3 or 4 so I don't really remember it. Plus, the ped said if he gets it from the vaccine it's not going to be as bad as if her were to get it on his own.

Yeah, I was four...But I have pretty vivid memories just because of the circumstances...

I've just always wondered why they came out with the vaccine...

Because chicken pox can actually get bad enough to make a small child very, very sick.

I just got it so when they start school they are less likely to get it and have to stay at home and miss out on school.

They will actually get another one of the chicken pox vaccines too. They get one at school age also. My 6 year old got it at her 6 year check up, that and one other thing, pretty sure she got two shots at school age.

Neither one of the ones that I have that have had the MMR shots or chicken pox have gotten any kind of rash or anything with them. They were both really lucky and didnt even spike fevers with shots. My newest one had a low low temp with her first round of shots at 2 months but it wasnt anything compared to what some kids get.

chicken pox can actually be fatal to children if itaffects their brain and spinal cord- it is not just a harmless childhoood disease AND if you get the chickenpox it later life you can get shingles which is EXTREMELY painful and affects the nerves in your body- i have seen this firsthand as a nurse and it is absolutely horrible!!
