I'm sending my 3 almost 4 year old to Head Start...which is like preschool.

I'm doing it because I think she needs the social interaction, I don't have many friends with kids.

i am letting my daughter go in the fall 3xs a week for 1/2 day. I am a stay at home mom and i wanted to socialize her with other kids her age. Also it is in the private school she will attend when kindergarden comes around so a lot of those kids will be in her class

i am sending my daughter to preschool this year. i am only going to send her two days a week for like 3 hours each time. she turned 3 in february.
studies have shown the great effect preschool can have on the kids when they finally reach kindergarden even though she already knows her alphabet, how to cut and everything. i just think she will benefit from the social interactions of being around other kids, even though she does have some little friends she plays with on a daily basis i figured the more kids she interacts with the better.
i started preschool at age 3 and i remember loving it.

I'm sending my almost 3 year old (will be 3 at the time) to preschool this fall. He'll be going 1/2 a day for 5 days a week. I am doing it so he can interact with kids his age. I also think in today's classroom there are higher expectations a lot sooner so I don't want him to be behind once he starts kindergarten.

Hello! I'm the odd ball right now. lol But I have 3 little girls at home. I decided for myself, that Iwas going to teach them what they need to learn before Kinder. I have lessons, activities, and projects that I do with my girls. I did this with my son as well when he was at home (now he's in second) and is top of his class every year. As for the social interaction part which children do need, I have them in ballet. We are also very active with church and they have their classes on Wednesdays and Sundays that they go to. So they really aren't lacking on that end either. I love it! It's fun. We have our Mommy and Me Activities we do each month like go to a farm or pumpkin patch or museum. We just really bonded before they get into the public school system. For my daughter that is going into Kinder next year, I have a check list and if she completes it by June 7th, we are having a "graduation" for her.

i am trying to get my daughter in head start this year, she is 3, and my son went for a year and a half, they stopped the bus route and it is too fare to drive..mon-thurs from 7:30-11, but he was not learninganything new this year, they were just repeating what he had learned the year b4..so i was not happy with the program anyway...but he starts K this fall..i am sure he is ready..he knows how to count to 100, his abc's, his colors, most of his shapes, his address and phone number, how to tell time, we are working on tying his shoes and the words he has to learn to pass K...i believe that is all he has left to learn from the requirements they have here..i hope he doesn't get too bored next year.

At the moment I do not have any children that are of preschool age, but Iwould liketo TTC in the near future.
I feel that preschool was a big help to my son- although he entered it already knowing most of the skills they would go on to teach him. It was a great learning experience for him, and it was a great way for him to socialize with other kids his age outside of a daycare setting, or family gathering.
I also know how difficult it can be for a child to enter kindergarten completely unprepared.
I suppose it all goes back to what goes on at home. If you work closely with your child you can accomplish a lot and teach them everything preschool has to offer, at the same time, it is a different experience and getting them "ready" for going to school itself may be a big thing. It'll give them a schedule and set up an idea of what school is.

Well my son is now in first grade......I sent him to preschool when he was just about to turn 3. He went for 2 years, it was year round full time. Partially because I had to work and partially because he was the only child at home. He needed to learn how to be around other kids his age. He learned so much in preschool that when he went to kindergarten he was well ahead of all the other kids. I had to do first grade work with him at home so he wouldn't be bored. Now he is in first grade and I am doing second grade work at home. He doesn't really like to learn from me, but he will learn from others. When he was in preschool, he learned sign language, spanish, alphabet.......so much. I will do the same with this one!!!
