resumes?

How did you build your resume? Do you keep hard copies on hand minus a cover letter? Where did you built it? Do you have any resources?

I have 4 different resumes.

Academic, Museums, Teaching, and General Office.

I googled examples from the different industries and built them in Word.

If I am applying for jobs, I create the cover letter for that specific position.

My field is social work and I am looking mostly in fields where I would work with kids/young teens.

And that's awesome

So basically four different approaches to high light what that position would see as most important? That's a good tip.

There are a number of different types of resume to have, which model to use really depends on which type of position you are trying for. I personally use a basic set up with my title, contact info, schooling / backround, then previous experience. I personally do not write the little summary at the top like some examples show you, it's optional and you should be writing an individualized cover letter for each job you are applying to.

I suggest keeping several hard copies of your resume printed and in a secure folder (to keep them from being damaged). Print them on resume paper from Office Depot or something - it looks way more professional. Just maybe keep them in car so you have one handy because - Hey! You never know what kind of opportunity you can run into.

Good luck!

That's a great idea, too! Thanks!

Exactly.

Of course, some things are the same, but you can change out the objective, places of work, volunteer work, skills, professional memberships, etc.

like lola mckitten said, the summary is optional. I personally, use it on mine because my field of work requires a lot of creative writing.

for example at the top of my resume is a profile and it reads something like:

"Designer interested in acquiring a professional advertising design/marketing position that utilizes skills as a copywriter and a graphic designer and helps develop creative thinking to gain experience in the industry.
Excellent verbal and written communicator with excellent interpersonal skills. Works well in both a solidary and team environment. Goal-oriented, flexible and versatile – able to maintain a sense of humor under pressure. Poised and competent with demonstrated ability to easily transcend cultural differences. Thrive in deadline-driven environments."

since you want social work, i think community service you have done should be prevalent in your resume.

I've got just the one as I have minimal schooling and work experience. I update it as things change. A friend's husband did up mine and I've edited it since.
