BF: Bring your milk supply back... Help pls

posted 15th Jul '12
My daughter was born on May 8th. I EBF her for like a week maybe a little longer and when my milk supply came in my boobs were very sore and tender and I gave up. She couldn't hardly latch on because they were so engorged, I didn't have a good pump and so when I pumped I couldn't get anything out and so I was just in alot of pain so I just stopped and put her on formula however, I miss it so bad... I miss the bonding time, sometimes I feel like I failed her. My question is I know you can sometimes bring your supply back but has too much time passed is my question I guess? I just need some info I guess. TIA

No time hasn't gone by too far. Here is a website all about breastfeeding and there is a lot of help on here.

You should be able to. Just latch her on as often as possible and see what happens. You could also start pumping every couple hours.

Nope! I stopped breastfeeding for a good month or two and one day I too missed it and tried to express some to see if there was still any left. Lo and behold there was and not only that but my son would still latch!

I tried to get her to latch a little while ago and she latched so I am good there.

Just keep putting her to the breast and drink lots of water. You can get mother's milk tea as well to help boost your supply.
I think you are doing an awesome thing! Good luck!

oo im totally interested in this. Same thing KINDA happened to me. I was soo sore and needed to give my nipples a break so i was pumping plus with our busy schedule with my two other ones i didnt have time to beable to latch our son on and take my other two kids where they needed to go..school..etc. I am interested to see if i could still BF i had my son May 3rd and i breastfeed for probably 2 weeks or so maybe a bit longer. No milk comes out anymore and when i try to hand express theres nothing there??? Does that mean theres no chance for me or is this normal and i still have a chance if i wanted to give it a shot??? Thanks  I enjoy my freedom a bit more, but i totally miss the bond. I didnt have the bond BF like i did with my first two, but my last pregnancy i lost a daughter to stillbirth so im thinking maybe because of that i wanted to do all i could to keep my son close. Please let me know, thankyou!!

Drink lots of water. You can drink mothers milk tea. Its at any local food store or health food store. You can get the herb Fenugreek, its at a health food store and take it several times a day to increase your supply again. You can also use flax seed and add it to when you bake chocolate chip cookies. I had a hard time increasing my supply with my LO when she was first born. Partly due to she was in a NICU for 3 weeks or so after she was born. This helped me a lot to get going since i was not able to BF her till I got to take her home. Even then I had a hard time. Its not too late to try again. I would go for it!

Nothing comes out when i hand express either and at least when I did it a little while ago but sometimes I will feel like a small wet spot on my shirt where my nipple is if I'm not wearing a bra.
