Kidneys are supposed to be failing

posted 15th Jul '12
but after my ER trip I found out they are not? Idk if it was a screw up with them or not because I have had kidney problems my whole life and the last doctor I went to about five years ago said my kidneys were dying and according to the ER my kidney function is 100% even though I was told kidneys cannot regenerate. So either it is a miracle or the doctors at the hospital are idiots or the blood test was wrong. Either way they have referred me to a sliding scale clinic to go to to get my kidneys rechecked and to get a new OB.

It's not impossible. There are factors - such as certain medications - that can alter the kidney function. Once the causative factor is eliminated, the kidneys can rejuvenate. It happened to my dad. His BUN was through the roof, and the doctors talked about dialysis, but then his BUN and Creatinine levels started to come down, and everything was fine.

Its weird because my doctors always told me that the damage was irreversible because parts of my kidneys were totally dead. I am trying not to get excited in case the doctors were wrong...

Doctors are human just like you and I, and they mistakes, too. Hopefully their error works in your favor.

My husband has kidney failure. When he was an ICU a few months ago his function level went back up some after they got his potassium levels under control.

But they are down again...he has 19%. They are already referring him to a hospital and telling him to get people interested in being doners. I wish they'd go back up again..but doubt it.
