Worst fear

Is pain. I can handle pain when it doesn't last for more than 5 minutes tops. So the idea of labor terrifies me. I honestly thought about getting a c section just to avoid the pain, but everyone is telling me just do a normal birth and get an epidural and I won't feel a thing.
So my question here really is, are you actually like completely numb when you get an epidural ? Or are you still in a lot of pain?

Usually you're pretty pain free. Mine didn't work though and only my left leg was numb.
Also, a lot of insurances don't cover unnecessary c-sections.

Lol. Im sorry, but getting a c section to avoid pain is the dumbest smurfing idea I have ever heard. You do realize a c section is major abdominal surgery, right?

By the time your that far along you will have experienced many different pains & you will be better prepared for it. Its up to you as to how you deliver but some drs won't do a c-section unless its necessary. They do inductions quite often though & I personally HATE pain but I don't know how much i'll be able to tolerate but i'm going to try to deliver naturally

u get the same med for c sections as u do for c section i went to have a vag birth and ended up having a emerg c section and all they did was gave me a second dose due to the first one wearing off .....if u are trying to avoid more pain then ness. then i would just stick with a vag birth the pain from recovering a c section is worse. u will be able to get up and take a shower and walk around and everything after vag birth not with a c section im having a repeat c section and they are still giving me the same med they gave me the first time just this time i wont have to have a second dose

When I got my epi I couldn't feel a thing. I couldn't even tell I was having contractions at all. It was great! My epi ran out towards the end so I felt everything for the birth but just keep it topped off and you should be fine as long as it takes.

Getting a c section would be far worse. Labor is a relatively short period of pain versus the recovery afterwards from birth. I would assume healing from a c section would hurt a lot worse, but I wouldn't just optionally choose one. It's major surgery. And you will feel the pain from it afterwards.

I felt nothing from the time I go my epidural to the time I started pushing.

C-section will avoid the pain of birth, but give you a 6+ week healing period and rob you of that minute or two your LO is set on your chest the first time.

Terribly sorry, for some one thats trying to avoid pain, having them give you pain meds and have you completely numb while they do a c section sounds a lot easier than pushing a baby out of my vag.
There was no need to be rude about it, thanks though.

You're pregnant. You can't avoid pain. Child birth is a part of having a child.
You're going to go through a LOT of pain in the next few months. By the time you give birth, you'll be fine because you want it to all be over.

My sisters c-section was horrifically painful. She couldn't even take care of her baby for the first few weeks because everytime she'd try to raise out of bed she could feel her stitches & staples tearing her. She WAS completely numb but it took her twice as long to recover

My epi only worked on my right side. I felt everything on my left side. I had terrible back labor and hip pain. They don't always work correctly and sometimes not at all. My BFF had her baby a few weeks ago and the epi failed twice so they knocked her out for a few hours so she could rest and gear up to push.

With me, it helped ease the pain with the contractions, but it definitely did not help with the pressure and the pushing part of it. I have a very low tolerance for pain, so believe me, I had c-section in the back of my mind too.

The pain from labor is relatively short, especially if you get an epi (which they are wonderful) compared to the pain of recovering from a c section. Besides, c sections come with many risks, why go through that unnecessarily? I unfortunately had to have a c section, but my labor up to my epidural was a breeze, I would have much rather delivered vaginally. If you wanted to avoid pain you should have avoided pregnancy ;) All the pain in the world is worth it in the end though. You'll be fine.

Yeah, I'm confused on why you would WANT to have surgery?!?! Just do a vag birth & get an epi.. You'll be fine. Being pregnant involves pain, that's just the way it is..
