Is labor length in the genes??

My mom was in labor with her first (my older brother) for 1 hour and 45 min. With me (second child) and hour 15 min. Then my little brother they thought was getting big so she was induced and in labor for 3 hours, and my little sister she was in labor for 35 min. With the 3 uninduced she did it all natural, no epidural. And if it was that fast then why need it anyway. Now I'm 6 months and wanting to go natural, praying this won't be an 18 hour ordeal. Is it in my genes to have fast labor? Other stories and experiences are helpful. Also how long we're you in labor with your first?

My mom was in labour with my brother for about an hour, and then 43 minutes with me.

I was in labour for over 38 hours.

So I would say, strictly from my own experience, no.

Nope, I labored less than half the time my mom did.

My MIL was in labor for 2 hours, then 25 minutes, then 40 minutes.
Her daughter A. was in labor for 20 minutes, 1 hour, then 25 minutes.
Daughter B was 3 hours then 45 minutes.

My mom was in labor for 14 hours, 12 hours and 12 hours.
I labored for 16 hours and 17 hours.

Looks pretty genetic from what I see around me!

My mom was in labor for 5 hours, and I was in labor for just about 5 hours as well. We both did it all natural too..

My mom was on labor with me for 36 hours before she had a c-sec with me. My brother was a repeat c-sec. I was the first woman to have not had a c-sec in 3 generations on both my mom and dad's sides of the family. My first was my longest labor at 8 hours then my others were 6, 3, 7 and 7 hours in length from the first twinge to holding them in my arms.

I don't think so. If she went into labor naturally then it sometimes goes faster. My mom was induced with both me and my sister. Sister was around 10 hours. I was like 3 I think. With DS I was in labor for almost 14 hours.

I dont think so ... my mom was in labor with her first (me) for 3 days .. I was in labor with my first for 9 hours

My OB nurse swears that genes have a lot to do with it. She was a labor and delivery nurse for several years and saw a correlation. I hope she is right. My mom labored for less than 3 hours with both my brother and I.

My mom had short labors with 3 out of four kids. With the fourth it was 14 hours. Mine was 40 hours of labor
