Godparents?

whats everyone thought on godparents? who should pick them? should they be friends or family?

My DD has two sets of God parents. One couple are friends and the other couple is my SIL&her SO.

like my fiance wants to do the whole church thing and getting baptist. and wants his brother to be the godfather, but i HATE his brother with a passion. idk what to do!!

My kids Have them. They have the same godparents and are listed in my will to have custody of the children if something happens to me and SO. I don't expect the godparents to buy stuff for my kids I'm their parent. I mainly have them so I know who will have my children if god forbid something happens. They are cousins. I think god parents can be friends or family it just depends on who you would trust with your children and would bring them up similar to your values.

My son has a godfather and a godmother (they are not a couple). WE decided together, well mostly me, but he agreed lol.

I would tell him how you feel. I would not let anyone be a godparent to my kid if I didn't like them

yeah, he knows i dont like him at all. he is rude and a huge mommas boy. what something did happen to me or the dad? would he be able to take care of my son? yeah know.

God parents can be friends or family. I have my own Godfather as my son's Godfather and my twin sister as his Godmother. I chose them solely because I know that if something were to happen to me and my husband, taking him in would not put a financial or emotional burden on them. And they love him and us whole-heartedly. I was raised up in a Catholic home and that's one of the things I still practice. DH didn't have a say in it because he didn't care. But it would be best if both participating parties agreed.

It would have to be in your will that he would get your child though. If it doesn't he can call himself a godfather but the courts will go by what your will says

This post just shows that you clearly don't know what a Godparent is. Unless you include them in your WILL the only role a Godparent has is to be responsible for the religious upbringing of the child.
