Child Support While Pregnant

Does anyone know how child support works when you are pregnant in the state of California? I know I can file now. But what about getting money from him for Dr. visits or my huge co-pay when I deliver? Someone break it down for me!

I don't know how it is here in California, but I know that my mom had to do this with my step dad. And while you can file while you are still pregnant, they won't make him pay anything until they do a DNA test after the baby is born. Then he will have to start to pay. And he'll be back dated up until when the baby was born.

ETA** I don't think that they can make him help you pay for your doctor visits either, but I could be wrong... But to my knowledge he isn't obligated to. He can just choose to help you...

call child support services ask them... I was told from a few friends I can't collect till the baby is born.... Plus I'm waiting till nov so hell be all pissed off and ruin his xmas...but I think they should pay child support from the day we concieve..

I think there is a way to find out the paternity while pregnant, it was actually a thread looong ago but I heard is not safe for the mother and the baby

It's called an amnio. They also use it to determine if a child has Downs. They stick a needle in your stomach and get a sample of the amniotic fluid.

The only way to do that would be to get an amino. And personally I don't think that they should for paternity beause there is so much risk involved for both parites.

It's also not accepted by the state for things such as child support.

my brother's fiancee was fighting for child support for months...she had the dna test done when she delivered her son and just in the past 2 years the father started paying child support. The process takes a while but you also have to think about whether the father is going to pay or not. I know this guy who was told that he had to start paying child support 4 1/2 years ago and he hasn't paid a dime and they have only taken away his license. They always say that people will be sent to jail but they don't do anything. They take care of all the other crimes and then years and years down the road the father may or may not go to jail. It's really stupid.

I know he will pay...his job means a lot to him and I know they pull outta his paycheck directly. I just cant imagine it taking so long to start receiving it. He really screwed me. We both wanted this baby and then he slipped into drinking and drugs and I wont have that, so I told him we cant live together anymore. (The apt is mine anyway) He hasnt paid rent in two months or given me any money for food, becasue as soon as he gets money he spends it on drugs or beer. Its so sad how excited he was and now he says he wants nothing to do with Cole. How am I supposed to do this alone? I think of it the baby was planned and wanted by both of us why am I left in the dry alone? So depressing. Well I got the child support papers and I am going to today to find out what I can do.

they will only make him pay from the day the baby is born...he will not have to pay dr bills!.....dna tests only take 48hrs

Thats what I like to hear....well partly...lol...I guess somehow the money for deliverly will have appear...other than that...the day the baby born is fine with me. I just cant pay for a planned baby alone. Thanks for the responses!
