Mealtime troubles

posted 12th May
I know it's common for toddlers to only want small portions of their meals, or only wanting to eat one food, but right now the only thing my daughter will eat is green beans, banana and tuna fish. I've been taking extra measure to mix something in with her food so she gets more nutrition out of it (cooking green beans with vegetable or olive oil, mashing some carrots in her tuna etc.) but usually she can pinpoint the food I'm trying to disguise and she refuses the rest of her meal.

I'm really concerned that she's not getting enough. This has been going on for about two weeks. Should I just let it go and let her run the show or continue to try and enforce healthy eating habits? Green beans, tuna and banana just don't seem like they would contribute enough. She drinks two sippy cups of milk a day and one sippy of water. Occasionally my boyfriend will screw everything up and give her an extra bottle of milk (I'm trying to get rid of bottles completely) but I told him to leave liquids to me.

Oh! I just remembered she eats Yogurt with cheerios for breakfast. So, any suggestions or should I just leave it be?

i would leave it be - she sounds like she's eating a lot of things with nutritional value so that's great! Better than what my daughter eats (my son was a very good eater).. But my girl could subsist on potato products alone if she completely got her way..

If you're really concerned though about other things she may not be getting I'd invest in some kiddie multivitamins or even get some Pediasure for her..

But it's completely normal for her to be so picky.. They go through phases and as they get older they become more open to new things.. Just keep trying new things out on her just to see if she'll take one day.. That's about the best suggestion I can offer

My Sister-in-law told me about Pediasure, and I've been considering it. I'm waiting for her appointment next week though before I actually start anything of that sort. I want to see that her pediatrician will be okay with it. I already know that because she's on whole milk he wants her on Iron Supplements (I have both anemia and leukopenia, so my daughter is high risk). It's kind of freaky thinking about giving my daughter extra vitamins and minerals, but if she needs them I'll do it.

I'll just keep trying while keeping her menu pretty much the same. The weirdest thing is she used to absolutely love spaghetti and macaroni and cheese. Now she won't touch them.   It's so frustrating, even for my boyfriend

Well my kids loved the pediasure, my doc was okay with it and it made me feel a little better knowing there was a form of "insurance" if you will regarding their diet..

But to your gals credit, I sound about just as picky! lol.. It really is all hit or miss but the point is, she's eating something and most pediatricians will be satisfied with that fact

I actually think she has a great diet, the only thing I would suggest is maybe upping the milk one more sippy cup.My sil who is a very lazy 350 lbs has two very lean active children and she gets on them when they won't eat their potatoes and meat.I look at her and say if we all ate like them we would be health book models, I think they make great choices.Your little girl is just fine, I know it seems like they live on nothing sometimes but they still get bigger and smarter.

Her doctor had told me to give her 3 servings of milk a day, whether it be in whole milk, cheese, yogurt etc. though I doubt replacing her water with milk will hurt.

Thanks a bunch guys ^_^
