Tongue Tied

My friend has a daughter that was born at 24 weeks I believe, she is now almost a year and a half and doing quite well.
They recently told her that they believe she is tongue tied and is struggling with whether or not they should get it clipped sooner or later.
What are your thoughts, I'd like to get her some advice on it.

My son was tongue tied and he had the procedure done at 9 months was really the shortest and easiest thing, I would say to go ahead and do it now before it affects her speech.

My sister was born tongue tied and BF fine. Her tongue is still the same as it was when she was born. She talks fine and everything as well. I think in the 80s they didn't do anything about it cause i remember it wasnt until she was older a Dr said something about it to my mom lol My niece has it too and she talks fine too. I think it's a personal choice to "cut" it or not!! We made fun of my sister for years for not being able to stick her tongue out though lol

My brother had his clipped at 2 years on his birthday. Your mouth heals quickly and he talks just fine. My cousin's are tongue tied and never have had their's clipped and sometimes it is hard to understand them clearly. They are all grown now.

my daughter was born with tongue tie and it was very difficult to breastfeed at first, but now she has it down to a science. I don't plan on getting hers clipped unless it becomes a serious problem for her to eat (she's only 3 months old right now). Although i have heard it's very simple and it does not bother the baby, i would do it early IF i were going to do it. I plan on knowing if i will clip her tongue by 9 months. That is a decision only her mother can make though, no one else.

My son was born at 34 weeks and while trying to bf the lactation consultant thought he may have been tongue tied. The doctor said he wasn't and i heard her say several babies may be tongue tied. I was just thinking "they're having trouble bc they're prem!" I was so annoyed. If the baby truly is tongue tied though I would get the procedure sooner than later and ask for a sedative.

I personally was tongue tied... i was about 13 when I had it clipped. I finally got it clipped because it caused a slur and words with double letters like kitten mitten and so on i couldnt say. It caused a lot of bullying when I was in junior high. After having it clipped and me being so old when it was clipped i still slur those words just out of habit thats how my tongue developed to say those words... My advice is to clip early before it can cause speech impairment.
