What do you use on the back of embroidery?

My mom recently passed and I have all of her embroidery stuff (a LOT) and I find it really therapeutic to use it, but I'm a total noob beyond what she taught me as a kid. I'm embroidering a wrap that I made for my daughter and I was thinking about using a fusible interfacing or something on the back to keep it tidy and provide a barrier so the thread and knots aren't rubbing on exposed skin.
I've seen some kind of interfacing on the back of embroidery on shirts and clothing that doesn't come off unless you sit at pick at it. What is this mysterious super-washable interfacing and where do I buy it?? The fusible interfacing I have would definitely fall off.
