abortion pill

posted 12th Jul '12
Has anyone used it? What's it like? Would it feel like a miscarriage? And what's the cut off limit for taking it? Also, would I have to get tested and such from my OB, or could I just tell her?

They told me the cut off was 9 weeks. But I'm sure you could call a planned parenthood and tell them you got a BFP, and you're interested in the pill. (They'll do their own testing to see how far along you are.)

Cut off is 9weeks I believe, and you have to get tested before they give you the pill to confirm. It's like a really bad period.

I had complications with mine, and that "really bad period" that you expect turned into two and a half weeks' worth of constant heavy bleeding with large blood clots, and insanely painful cramps (so bad I literally could not walk. I ran out of pain medication and I literally could NOT WALK until I had a second procedure to fix the mess the pills had made).

Different pills have different cut-off dates, but the general consensus is that you will need a surgical abortion after 8 or 9 weeks.

Honestly, I would recommend you go with the surgical procedure if you're considering it. It is very painful when it is happening, but the actual procedure only lasts maybe 15 minutes or so and you don't have the weeks' worth of heavy bleeding where you get to witness the remnants. It is easier to cope with the process emotionally with the surgery.

The pill was an absolute NIGHTMARE for me and I would never recommend it for people who went into their abortion emotionally unstable about the procedure like I was.

Hum. Thank you.

My cousin just recently found out she was pregnant. She wants an abortion, but her mother is horribly pro life. My aunt will sign the consent form for the pil (not her mother) but not for surgical. I'll tell her your story, and see how she feels.

I did it when I was 16. It was like labor, just less intense. I did it by myself, silently, while my dad was in the other room. If I had to have an abortion again, I'd do it that way.

Yeah not to sound like I'm trying to scare her out of it or anything. Lol. Most women usually do okay with the pill, but there is a risk of complications like there was with me, and when or if it happens, it is terrible to go through.

The thing about the pill is that the abortion lasts longer, and like I said, if you aren't confident in what you are doing, it can be really traumatizing to look in the toilet and see what has come out of you. I didn't know whether I wanted an abortion or not, but got one because of my DH who wasn't ready for kids at the time. It wasn't until after it was done that I seriously regretted what I did.

If her only option is the pill, then I hope you'll give her all the support she needs to cope with it. It is a very sobering experience, especially if it goes wrong. :[

Oh I'll definately be there to support her. My house would be the best place for the process.

I'll let her know the risks/complications of both procedures. Thank you

The Vitamin C flush, right? I really wouldn't risk it, especially since it sounds like she's underage.... If she has permission to do it the most effective way with the least amount of consequence, I think that would be the best route.

@OP, it's good for her to have your support and a place she can go to where she won't be judged.

I had the pill.

It was like a really heavy period but when they warn you that there will be peach to fist sized blood clots, they aren't lying.

I had one huge clot and it scared the smurf out of me. lol
