You, Your pregnancy, and Sun Block?

posted 12th May
They should seriously make books about these things! J/king, I know they probably have it in a book somewhere but I have yet to find it in any I have or online. My mother in law has seriously got me scared of the sun, she said if you get really bad bad bad sunburnt you can miscarry. While I think this might be an exaggeration on her part, I still don't wanna get burnt. I hate sunburns. So I'm going to my mother's house for three days, and she has her pool up and working good. I bought some SPF 55, Neutrogena brand dry-touch sunblock. I wanted the 85 honestly, but Justin said that was going over board. So whatever. It doesn't say anywhere on the bottle that pregnant women CAN'T use it, but then again there are a lot of things like that that we're not supposed to use so. My ? is, I'm not gonna be in the sun THAT much maybe 30-45 mins a day if that. It's mainly for use on my upper back, chest, neck, and face. Do you think I got strong enough stuff? Like should it protect me well enough and am I even gonna be able to use it? I'm so paranoid, I'm sorry but thank you girls for taking the time to read/answer. My mother in law just has me seriously freaked out.

That should be fine. After a certainnumber the SPF really doesn't work. Make sure while you are out there you drink a lot of water, stay SUPER hydrated!

Sunburn is never good for you even if your not pregnant. Just make sure that you have sunscreen on. I would choose a high SPF, even though it's not necessary to have a high SPF, it's just that it is sooo much better for your skin to have a high SPF. The main thing to worry about when you go out in the sun is to make sure you do not over heat. So be sure to drink lots of liquids and stay cool   have lots of fun!

Thank you ladies! Do you think there is any truth to the whole miscarriage by sunburn thing?

It can raise your body temp if its bad enough, which can potentially harm the baby, but a mild sunburn is more than likely not going to be too bad of a thing-I'd still avoid prolonged sun exposure, either way.

I think it's after spf 35 it doesn't work anymore after 35 it's more of a thicker consistancy than stronger block.. I don't remember exactly. I worked at a tanning salon for awhile and I had to know all of that stuff. Once I quit it all kind of escaped my brain..lol

Thank you for that link! That was interesting...I'm extremely pale, and this sun block is uva-uvb protection as well...but I really only needed a 30? Wow. So the higher number really only means I can stay out a little longer right without burning it doesn't necessarily mean it's more protection?

Pretty much. But, it doesn't really give you much longer. But, if you're just going out to swim you should be fine! And trust me, you will be relieved when you get in the pool. It takes away from the pregnancy weight.

That's another reason I didn't mind saying yes lol. I'm looking foreward to having some relaxing time lol. Everytime I pass a pool or Water World I get an almost ache to wanna go swim haha. I even bought a new swimsuit b/c I know I'm gonna use it all summer most likely.

I got serious sunburn when I was pregnant, when I was like 26 weeks. I have pictures somewhere. But I never use any sun lotion or anything, I use oil ;x.

I didn't know at the time that it was bad for the baby or anything, otherwise I wouldn't have done it, obv!
