loss because of RH factor...?

posted 11th May
I found out I was pregnant the day after Valentines. My family, boyfriend and myself were just getting used to the fact that I was actually preggo. I was shocked, excited, suprised, nervous... you name it. I work for a doctors office so they gave me a free blood test for the HCG just to be 100% sure (even though I had taken about 6 pregnancy tests!) That following saturday I was having some pretty bad cramping and light spotting I waited it out awhile and ended up going to the ER with my mom. I was scheduled for my 1st OB appt. about 3 days from then. They did an ultrasound and by then I was bleeding pretty heavily and cramping BAD. The US came back "6 wk fetal death" I was devastated. I found out that my blood type is B-Negative and the nurses at the hospital acted like that caused the miscarriage. I had to naturally miscarry and went to my OB 2 days after the ER. My boyfriend has Positive blood so I'm wondering how many of you have had successful pregnancies being 2 different type bloods? I'm still not over my loss and its very hard.... I've gotten myself very scared of always miscarrying now. Anyone else gone through this? I need advice, stories, facts, comments.... anything!

When my sister found out she was prego they said if you have a certain type of blood you have to get a shot right away because if your blood and the babies blood mix in anyway it could harm the baby.

Normally it doesn't effect the child unless you have already had one natural birth or miscarriage.

Yea in the hospital they gave me a shot of Rhogam and I was told if I become pregnant again I will get that shot again but around the 28th week of pregnancy unless I start bleeding but then another nurse told me that when I become pregnant again I will have to get the shot asap.

I am RH negative and my boyfriend is not and is not and I never have had any trouble with it. This is my 3rd pregnancy. As long as you get the rogran (sp?) shot.

Yes I had spotting at around 6 weeks and they have me going for a RH negative factor immediatly. Even though Im nearly 100% that Im O+. But anywho they said that if my blood mixes the body begins to attack the baby.

Even if it is a problem, they don't usually give your first treatment shot until 24ish weeks. I am not sure that's why you miscarried, there are lots of moms out there that have a negative blood type and carry their babies to term. Many times when you miscarry by the 6 week marker, it's usually from some sort of a genetic anomaly that occurred while the baby was forming. Probably nothing you could have done to prevent it. Another possibility could have been a clotting disorder of your blood. If that's the case, they can treat future pregnancies early on with baby-aspirin and see if that works.

THIS IS TRUE (points up)

THIS IS NOT TRUE (points down)

I am RH-
and i have 4 healthy babies
you ONLY get a Rhogam at 28 wks
UNLESS there is bleeding or a prior miscarraige where you where not givin the shot.
and then you are givin one AFTER the birth.
There is NO WAY for a first time pregnancy to be affected buy the RH- factor. UNLESS you have had bleeding, miscarraige. It can and will kill or seriously harm the 2nd fetus if you do not have the shot.

Today, when a woman with the potential to develop Rh incompatibility is pregnant, doctors administer a series of two Rh immune-globulin shots during her first pregnancy. The first shot is given around the 28th week of pregnancy and the second within 72 hours after giving birth. Rh immune-globulin acts like a vaccine, preventing the mother's body from producing any potentially dangerous Rh antibodies that can cause serious complications in the newborn or complicate any future pregnancies.
A dose of Rh immune-globulin may also be given if a woman has a miscarriage, an amniocentesis, or any bleeding during pregnancy.

Ok, I had the RH factor and my first pregnancy was fine, I just had to have the shot after Aydin was born...if you miscarry you need the shot afterwards....

RH factor is when the daddy has pos blood and you have neg and the baby has pos.

You body can build up antibodies against your baby and cause either you to mis carry or water on the babies brain.

like Irishbrainwather ....(at first I though your name was brainwasher =D) said! You dont need a shot until your baby is born unless you had a previous miscarriage. Your OB will determin if and when you need the shot.
