Holy Crap! (labor story)

I had a pretty odd labor.

Friday afternoon I went for a checkup with my midwife after not having seen her for almost two weeks (and at which point I was already 4cm dilated). I wasn't really expecting to have made much progress since then, thinking that if I had I would have certainly gone into labor, but I was 7cm dilated! I had been in state of perpetual false labor for a few weeks which had been continuously (albeit painlessly) dilating me. I was VERY blessed as I later found out once real labor kicked in shortly after.

My midwife put a call in to the hospital and told them I'd be there any minute and that she'd be breaking my water shortly and waiving a little pitocin under my nose to get labor going. This was around 4:15pm. The first hour and a half of my labor was tolerable, and I spent it breathing and rotating my hips on a birthing ball (highly reccomended). Then the fun started!

The next hour and a half (including the half hour spent pushing) was spent in the most unbearable, indescribable pain. I started begging for the epi, but first my nurse wanted to check my cervix...anddddd...I was already 10cm and it was time to push. No epi for me.

In the end we all made it out okay...despite my pleads for death in the process. It was a messy whirlwind of urine and poo (mine, not his!) but I did it, and without drugs. All in all I spent about 3 hours in labor and pushed for 30 minutes. Brennan Lear Pillivant came into the world at 7:19pm, at 7lbs 8z, 19in...And three weeks early! He would have been gigantic if he'd stayed in much longer. He is absolutely beautiful with a full head of brown hair and big green eyes.

We spent a whole 48 hours in the hospital, during which I slept for about 4. I keep thinking about everything that happened and am in utter disbelief. Friday was the fastest day of my life, and the most important. I can't sleep through my shock and amazement. HE came out of ME? Incredible.

Happy Mothers day and Congrats! What a fast labor I am happy it turned out so well. That pitocin really kicks labor into overdrive. No meds great job!

Wow, awsome job.
He wouldnt of been gigantic. My daughter was 9 pounds 5 ounces.
Now, if she stayed in any longer she would have been gigantic.

Hah my daughter came 3 weeks early too. They said she looked like a 38 weeker though. I was due May 20th but had her April 28th. You were lucky u had a fast labor, and im surprised that you went so long being so dialated! I went to the hospital and I was 1-2 cm and 80% effaced but my water had already broken, so they didnt send me home. I went 10 hours without the epi but caved in when my contractions started getting FARTHER apart but increasingly more painful & intense to the point where i was hysterical in tears everytime one would strike and it was like torture.... but in the end i was happy i got it because they gave me pitocin after to speed things up and i dont think i could have been able to push without it because i ended up tearing and they had to cut me and do stitches =/ did u end up with any 'battle scars'?



edit- my daughter was 7pds 6 oz 20.5 in long so i can only imagine what she would have weighed on her due date too lol

I'm hoping to have a natural birth, but I'm leaving the option of a lumbar Epi open if I cannot bear it! But how heartwarming this was to read, so exciting! I can't wait to see pictures of your little one. Congrats mama!

Congratulations! Wow, I can't believe how short your labor was! I can onlypray for mine to be twice as long..

holy crap! No drugs?! I'm in awe by women that can give birth without drugs. I've not given birth yet, but I'm definitely using drugs.

i did it without drugs as well!!! it is hooooooorrrrible!!!! yu fell like you're not gonna make it, you feel like you'd rather die! but when you meet your son it is the most amazing moment in your life!
