venting :'(

posted 11th Jul '12
I'm 16 and expecting a baby in February.. My boyfriend and I got jobs, and are saving up all the money we can until the baby comes.. My parents are far from supportive they say mean things to me, and said once the baby comes I cant stay there unless i pay rent, so My boyfriends parents are allowing us to stay there after the baby is here... its hard without my parents, and my sisters.. I want the best for my baby, and it really upsets me that my parents are being so hard on me.... and advice? or anything...

You are adult enough to start a family, I dont think it is unreasonable to be paying your parents some money to stay there. Sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear.

They may change their minds when the baby actually comes. Sometimes parents in that situation just have to get over their anger.
If not though it'll suck but it's not the end of the world. You'll just have to be strong and learn how to do things differently.
Good luck.

Well, you are going to have to be an adult now. You should be paying rent, no one lives for free. That nice of his parents though. I'm sure your family will come around. Your 16, they're probably just trying to force you to face the reality. Being a young mom is hard!

Are you still in school?

Paying rent is part of being an adult and providing a place for your child to live.

I agree, but the problem is I cant afford what they are asking for...

Sounds fair. You made an adult choice, so they're treating you like an adult. Bringing a newborn into their home is reason enough for you to pay rent. I know it's not what you want to here, but it's true.

I'm not complaining about that, I just cant afford what they are asking for.

Then move in with your boyfriend. I know it sucks to have to leave family but your baby having a place to live that is stable is more important than anything else. Would you be living like in your boyfriends room or what would the plan be there?

Well explain you can't afford what they are asking and come to a price which you both agree on.

Well, you have another option. Move in with your boyfriend. Your family won't disappear forever just because you move out.

Yes I am in school, well its summer vacation now...but when school starts i can only work weekends, and that isnt enough to buy everything for the baby and the amount of rent they are asking for.
