i feel bad

posted 11th Jul '12
I didnt breastfeed :/ so i had my daughter 9 days ago and she wouldnt take to it but it also made me feel weird. Oh plus SOs mom and grandma.. i had told everyone go behind the curtain so i could try BF well they made me feel gross cause i could see them doing what i didnt want and taking pictures of me trying to get LO to latch on... well now my mom is telling me how i didnt try hard eough but not only that but i feel back she isnt getting the best of the breastmilk... do you all think im horrible for letting her go straight to a bottle instead? She likes the bottles cause the nipples are long and well you know what a nipple on a bottle is like... she wont take a binky if its not long and whatnot so im guessing thats why she wouldnt take to me... my nipples are not long ( sorry tmi) and she just rejects me... what was i suppost to do... idk guess its too late now anyways i should just suck it up n move on...

I didn't BF either. It's your choice and no one should give you smurf about the one you decide to do

It's normal to feel like that if you attempted and it didn't work. But as long long as you are feeding your child, you are not doing anything wrong.

Don't feel bad. But honestly, it may not be too late if you're serious about it. You could start trying to get her to latch again, maybe even try (damnit I can't think of what they're called but they go over your nipple, a nipple shield?) and see if she'll latch to that. Then just pump every two hours.

I tried with my son. gave up because it hurt..
but I'm going to try for #2..

and how you said she likes nipples and binkies that are "long", are you sure she had enough of your breast in her mouth?
it might have just been that she didn't latch on right. and you could have asked someone in the hospital about it..
but don't feel bad. as long as the baby is healthy and happy.

You can still attempt pumping for a little while so she still gets bm. They are smurfs for making you feel that way   I would never consider you as a bad person because of this. Not in a million years

I had my son last wednesday and I am still having problems. I feel bad as well like i’m not trying hard enough so what I am doing is breast feeding for like an hour without a latch(sucks a few times cries etc) If he is still hungry I will feed him a bottle of my breast milk. It is confusing for the baby but at his appt yesterday he lost a lot of weight and want to see him again in a week. Breast feeding isn’t an embarrassing thing. Also you shouldn’t give a binky until at least 1 month is what my dr said. I know it is depressing I keep crying because he only latches on sometimes but I am hoping it gets easier.

most hospitals pop a binky in the babies mouth right after their born..   i have never heard to wait a month...

You're supposed to wait if you're breastfeeding so it doesn't cause nipple confusion. I've actually always heard to wait 6 weeks. My LO had one right away though and never got nipple confusion.

I am sure every place is different. My hospital did not give me a binky so I asked my dr about it yesterday and she told me to not give him one until he is at least a month

With my little sister, and my son, by the time they were done checking the babies they came back with those green soothie binkies.
which was a pain, because my son wouldn't take ANY other binkie. he loved those damn things..

but since I'm planning to try breast feeding this time, If i tell them, they wont give him one?

I had the rudest. I hate my body so i asked nobody be in my room while she checked me the nurse just opens my legs wide as she can... my stepmom, mom, step sister, godsister and SO all got a look accidently then the her instead of letting me be comfortable rollled me over and throw my leg up on a pillow.. she was gonna use MINE from home but then she just took the ones from under my head and i had SO help me get comfy again... then it was a horrible delivery... i mean yea i laughed the entire time n was asking for food but the doctors were crap! Then as i had guest come in was when they decided well you need a shower or we got to see the baby for something... i asked if they could wait like a few minutes cause my guest were gonna be leaving anyways but no the nurses all brushed me off and they gave us nothing... no binkies, they didnt talk to each other so i ended up on 4 pain killers at once plus my prenatal... the nurse who was showing me how to BF yelled at me when i couldnt figure it out and so she grabbed my boob and tried getting her to feed but couldnt... i told them i didnt want her in the nursey n that i wanted her with me..only one respected my wish, i changed the room temp( it was 69 and i was cold) up to 75 the nurse kept putting it down to 65, everything with this hospital was crappy for me... maybe im whinny but me, SO and my family all were unhappy... only good thing is LO

dont ever feel bad about not breastfeeding.. That is your choice.. With my first i tried and my body just couldnt keep up to his demand and my sister made me feel bad about it but than i finally told myslef that it was okay and He was better off because atleast with the bottle he was getting enough rather than fighting with everyone and feeling bad about not breastfeeding.

I took a class yesterday, and the woman teaching it advised trying it for 3 weeks, and then supposedly it gets easier. I don't know from experience. And that is really crappy that everyone was trying to take pics and go against your wishes. I'm sorry to hear that!
