There is a book they sell at target - I dont know what its called (great help right, lol) but it has a flush button on it and makes the flushing noise. They also have a Potty Time Elmo which is GREAT - Elmo sings potty songs and even has reassuring words when he doesnt make it to his potty and has an accident.

I have been putting off for the most part..but i'm really tired of finding poop trails..where he has taken off a poopy diaper himself. I figure he doesn't want it on him..maybe its time to teach him where it can go.

I am at home waiting the bitrh of bubby nomber two.
I dont want to push my monkey to toilet train but he is 20mths and showing interest.
Whenhe has done "poos" i take him to the toilet and we now have a flushing ritual, we wave andsay Bye Bye to the poos and he sits on the toilet, with achild seat insert so he feels safe and not fall thru.
He doesnt do anything but Im trying to get him used to sitting on the toilet without fear.
then he waves bye bye again and presses the button, waving the whole time... its the only way I have found to show him where poos go and that its him being in conrtol.
He can tell me when he has done poos but not when he is ready to, but Im sure that will come in time.
When we first started about 3 weeks ago, we clapped and cheered and even took his daddy into the toilet to really "celebrate" saying good bye...
now he flushes the bitton when we go and is interested in watching dad "psssss".. He has started holding his penis and leaning over the toilet pretending to pee but nothing happens.. but hes getting the idea... hope that helps.
It may not be the best way, but its the only thing I could think of a tthe time.

That sounds like a very interesting approach. I guess I will look into that book at Target..and ask family members. There really haven't been boys in my family these last few years. But I'll ask around. thanks for your idea's

I talked to my FSIL..whom is potty training her twin boys..and she says she's found out that watching their father...really helps them. I guess I will try that.

Also I have asked Mara...to put this as a sticky..in the PWT forum. I think it will help a lot of Mom's kinda read or learn things that may have worked for other Moms.

Hey Steph!! Awesome idea, I can't believe we don't already have one.

When I waspotty training withTaylor, as soon as she could walk I took her to potty with me and put her with no diaper on her potty. She peed in it for the first time at 15 months, but wasn't fully potty trained until right at 2 years. I put pull ups on her at night for 3 months. She was in underwear only 24/7 at 2 years 3 months.

From 15 months til the 2 year mark, she pooped and peed both in her diaper but I never struggled with her on it, never bribed her. I tried using a potty that when she peed it made racecar sounds. Scared the shit out of her!! She ended up using a stool and a big girl toilet adapter. I'm not sure if I'll be pooty training Joshua or if Patrick gets that honor. But as soon as he's walking, he'll go with either one of us.

Good advice. Grayson will be two next week, and he's shown a lot of interest in the potty. The only problem is that he's attatched to daddy when it comes to going on the potty. He doesn't want anything to do with me in the bathroom at all recently. Daddy needs to give him a bath, daddy needs to brush his teeth, daddy needs to.... etc.
Not that I'm overly bothered by this, but Kevin works shift work and his hours are irregular. I'm afraid that if we start potty training, his inconsistent schedule will hinder Grayson's progress.

i never bought a book.

the way i got my son potty trained was make sure he knows from pee and #2 and then let him run around naked. when he had to do the other he got asked where he wanted to go. once we started going full blown potty training he got his big boy seat that sits on th actual potty instead of the other. and ever since then he's been doing both. and when we started to aim i told him to aim for the hole in toliet and of course watch daddy which i think helped a lot. abot 2 mnths ago he started to wear undies in the house and while we went out. now all we gotta we down is nighttime.  .

I think I'm going to be training Joshua, more then likely. Patrick works 2nd shift, andI stay home. I wasn't sure how he(Joshua) would feel about mommy having no penis.

Steph- My MIL told me the way she potty trained Chris was. She took him outside and told him to pee on stuff. Like a rock, a tree, etc...then after they went in she took him to the potty and told him to ring the hole. She said it only took a couple of days of doing this and he was ready!

I'm still working with Aubrey when I can. It's just hectic with 2. She'll tell me she's gotta pee-pee but I'll be feeding Atalie. So by the time I get to her and help her get her diaper off, she's done peed. UGH I'm watching for advice too!!

With my girls, I done a sticker method. I bought a big poster board type thing and would buy star stickers. Each time going to the potty I would give them a star for that day. When they got so many stars for the week, they would get a little prize ( book, small toy, etc) It worked really well. They loved to put the star up themselves.

Also with my girls (i don't know about a boy, we haven't gotten there yet   ) I put panties on them instead of making them wear pull ups. They trained faster is seemed like b/c they could really feel when they were starting to get wet with the panties. They did have quite a few accidents and it was messy at times...but they liked the thought of being a "big girl" in their big girl panties. Both of them were pretty easy to train though.

My 3 year old though, she still wets the bed at night   so i'm trying to figure out how to stop this from happening right now.

Thanks for the advice ladies. Today I did put Jaedon on the toilet..with the part of his potty inside it. He wanted to get down immediately  ! I have tried to sit him on the potty..and he loses interest. Is it easier with boys..when they're watching Dady instead? Cause if so..I will have to stay on Brian about that...
