Pumping while pregnant.

posted 11th Jul '12
Ok. So I am 22 weeks pregnant and my son will be born November 5th. The problem is, my boobs are already producing milk and they are so swollen to where it hurts. Should I pump my milk while I'm pregnant with him and freeze my milk?

No I've heard it can jumpstart labor. And it's colostrum. Very important for baby, it will keep developing until the baby comes. Mine are squirting everywhere this morning. It's really annoying, but hey what can you do? I'd throw on a nursing pad.

You can pump while pregnant!! There are moms out there who get pregnant with baby #2 and still are breastfeeding baby #1 without pre-term labor complications (Famous example: Michelle Duggar, who has been breastfeeding for the last 20 years continuously and through numerous children).
Breastmilk is good for 6 months frozen, make sure to put dates on it!!
Also, you can check with where you are going to deliver and see if there is a breastmilk donation program in your area. I had a cousin who's milk came in early and she donated some (because a few months of regular pumping will give you quite the "stash") to a donation program that helps NICU babies when their mom's have trouble producing milk.
Hope this helps!

It's different when you have been nursing through pregnancy, you shouldn't just start pumping if you haven't been nursing. You could cause pre-term labor.

And also, if you just start pumping during pregnancy, won't that stop the colostrum production and start making the next milk?(can't remember what it's called)
