feel like im 'planning' right

posted 11th Jul '12
im starting to think about school now that my daughter is a little older & i want to do something with my life besides sit at home . i have completed 2 years of college studying Criminal Justice & Psych . i had got pregnant in my third year & it got to the point i could not leave the house without getting sick & me & my SO were having problems . i had quit school & my job to move back to California 3 months pregnant . deciding to work everything out & moving back to Ohio , i have nothing . im starting all over again . now i want to have something i can be proud of & so i know that my daughter will be proud of me & she will be stable in the long run . when i think about the 2 years of school that i am in debt already over , i feel like it was wasted time because i dont feel like that is what i want to do . then when i think about it , i really dont know what i want to do . nothing grabs me like CJ did when i started to pursue it . i feel like im not interested in anything & i dont want to waste anymore time . i have been looking into online accredited schools & what majors they have to offer with online classes but when i see things i would consider ( nursing , dental assist . , something healthcare ) i feel like most of these are hands on degrees & that i wont be successful & put myself back into this same position .

i feel like im lost . i hate this feeling . i just want my daughter to be able to have anything from me & right now i feel like that is almost impossible to give her without me finding something to get interest in & pursuing it to get that job that will provide for her .

Why do you feel you wouldn't be successful with a "hands on degree"?

i know i can be successful with a hands on degree but right now im looking into something i can do online because i dont want to put my LO in daycare so young ( plus i dont have the funds to do so ) so my best option now is to do an online degree .

Hmm, doesn't seem like there are many of those...however...
Those "hands on" degrees require pre-reqs. Maybe you can do the pre-reqs first and maybe by then you can will feel comfortable putting your daughter in daycare?

I'm going for Ultrasound and will be finished my pre-req's next week. I'm hoping to start the Ultrasound School in January. During the next 6 months, I'm going to take a phlebotomy course (it's 3 weeks!) and try to get a job doing that as back up. A lot of states phlebotomists start out making $16/hour!

& i mean thats something i would take interest to but i dont have anyone to take my daughter so i can go to a campus or anything . i mean i can look into pre-req classes online but i still have to figure out what it is exactly i would want to get into . that i feel is my problem . i feel like im going to keep wasting time & money to figure out what i want to pursue .

You could probably do some classes online. But is there anyone you have that could watch her for you? My SO and I keep alternating schedules with school so one of us will always be with LO

i mean my SO can , but he always complains bout how hard he works & how tired he is from working . he starts at 6 & is off at 230 will come home get on the computer & shower then nap til like 7 or so then he is back in bed by 10 . i feel like im doing everything on my own most of the time , so instead of an argument i would rather be able to have her & still do the classes . im looking into Kaplan Univ . i just have to figure something out . . . without stressig about it .

All of my pre-req's were offered online at the community college. I didn't take them online just because I didn't prefer it that way. My summer semester has been all online. It's honestly much easier to do it in class. It's very hard to take care of a baby and do online classes. My son is 2.5 though!

Look into state help with child care. I didn't notice where you live but I live in MS, and there is state help. I'm going to move to Texas next week and they have it. When I lived in LA, and DC, they had it too. I think all/most states do! They will either pay all or most of the daycare.

i did have state assistance but they took it from me because when we went to the hospital to have my LO ( she is 3.5 months ) we listed the same address . i rent out a room from his mom but they took the assistance . so unless i have my own place then i cant apply again .
