Parents of children with ADD or ADHD

posted 10th Jul '12
I have a question. When did you find out your child has these disorders?

My baby is 9 months but he is super hyper. Over hyper. He literally cannot sit still. When I feedhim he pulls his hair out and wriggles the whole time because he needs to be contantly moving. The older he gets the worse it is. His father has ADHD. Do you think it's possible?

No. It's not possible at that age. DD is 5 yrs old and her psychiatrist said she thinks she may have it, but she is too young to really diagnosis.

no ways. you cant diagnose anything like that until the way later. because kids are hyper for a while before they mellow down.

Hmm, interesting. Is he just a hype little boy then? Or do you think I should be on the look out?

Babies... in general are hyper. From my experience anyway.

Sounds like a normal baby. DS's play therapist thinks he has it but she said he's still too young to be diagnosed.

I think while it's probably too early to tell now, it's possible. It's highly likely if his father has ADHD that he will too. You can talk to his pediatrician about it, but they probably can't give an accurate diagnosis until he is 2 or 3. DS was diagnosed at 5, but he had the same issues very early on. I was just in denial about it for a long time. I wish I would've gotten him help sooner. His father has ADHD and is bipolar too.

Did your LO pull his hair out too? Because whenever my son has to sit in his highchair for food, or I hav to hold him to feed him a bottle he literally rips his hair out :/ It's really worryng me. He has a check up on the 19th, so I'll ask about it then.

My daughter started displaying symptoms of agitation at five months after a vaccine reaction. She was often unhappy...fidgeted a lot, banged her head, clawed, shivered, cried for extended periods.

She was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder and ADHD...we think she probably has mild autism/asperghers as well...she's nearly 9.

No but he was bald for quite some time lol. He used to hit himself in the head and bite his hands or arms. Very rarely I'll catch him doing it, but for the most part it stopped after he started his meds last year.

This could be a sign of anxiety/ stress. My LO has done it a few times. I'm a habitual hair puller and have been as long as I can remember. I pull my eyelashes and eyebrows.
