What is your opinion on ear piercings for infants?

sO I would like to ask other new moms, or moms with infants about getting their babies ears pierced, my daughter is almost 2 months old and people say it's bad to get them done because the cartlage isn't there yet, and some say it's good to do it young because they don't remember the pain, so what is your opinion? I've called around and so far I have not found a place that will pierce babies ears until they are 9 months +, some places won't do it until they're 2 years old.

Everyone is differant. For my daughter I feel its her body and if she wants them done then she can ask for it. I had mine done when I was a baby and hated them so once I was old enough I let my ears close up.

my pediatrician's office does it on babies after they are 3 months.

I think is fine, just wait until she gets her shots if you plan for her to get them. If you don't I would wait a bit longer so she can have a stronger immune system.

I had mine done when I was 8 and I didn't even feel the piercing go in. I would say leave the choice up to your child, because the may not want their ears pierced when they're older. I had to have my ears re-pierced at 16 because they healed up and it hurt a lot more, because I already had scar tissue from the previous piercings they had to choose a slightly different place and it was closer to the nerve endings.

I pierced Erin's ears at 4 months of age....never had any trouble. Even as she got older, she never bothered them....not one bit.

Her pedi gave me a hard time about it tho because that should have been "her decision". He quickly let that go when I told him that he didn't give my boys an option when he circumsized them.

My parents got mine done when I was little, and same thing when I got old enough I took them out. I'm almost 20 and to this way will NOT wear earrings.

my friend used to do peircings all the time and when i asked for my daughter she said DONT DO IT BEFORE 6 MONTHS because their ears are still growing. she told me tons of horror stories about little babies that had their ears peirced early and then a year later the holes were no longer centered bc the lobe had still kept growing. so if you want her to have centered peircings and not look crooked, wait til 6 months.

Thankyou ladies for all your opinions, although if you don't like your ears pierced when your older you could alway's just take them out and them them grow over. I just get sick of people calling my daughter a boy when shes dressed in bright pink from head to toe, lol

I would say even though they look SO darn cute and they're especially helpful for those pain in the butt people who like to tell you how adorable your little boy is... when they're completely decked out in pink... obv a girl with diamonds in their ears.

I think it should be a reward for the child... Man I appreciated the privilige SO much when my Mom finally took me...
I think that it's just another opportunity to teach your kid responsibility and that if they want something, they have to earn it... it's not just their right to have it.

Thank you lol, it's what my family do these days, I say these days because I had my ears peirced at only few days old.

i had mine done when i was a new born!
my mom said is good to pierce the baby ears when they are NB because their skin is more soft and they wount feel the pain

and im planning onhaving them done to my baby girl a few days after she's born..
