being induced early

posted 10th Jul '12
This is my first baby and with my size my doc wants to induce almost a week early, I'm 4 foot 9 inches and my doc says I'm at a high risk for a c section, at my 37-38 week appt they did an ultrasound to check the size of the baby and she was estimated to be 7lbs 5ozs, I'm such a nervous mommy to be I went to the hospital on the 4th of July bc my contractions were 9 mins apart, then went again on July 6th bc they were between 6 and 7 mins apart and the nurse that was checking me said that my doc was gonna schedule me in to be induced, everyone I had talked to told me that I would be this week (9th-13th) so it made me very nervous, anyone with any advice and or suggestions?

I think it is sad that so many doctors are so quick to jump to c-sections when just years ago it wasn't as common   I would never agree to it but that is just me. & most of the time, their estimates on how big the baby is, is wrong.

Personally, I'd just wait for natural labor (unless complications come up). They were soooooo far off with my sons measurements. I was induced twice, and if it's not necessary, don't go for it.

!!

I will, and did, decline a c-section (longish story there). I would only go through with one if absolutely necessary. Not size based off of an ultrasound, not accurate.

I would decline. Lots of small women deliver vaginally w/o a problem. Personally I would wait and see how things go. if you can avoid induction and c/s that is much better.

I had a c-section   not really by choice though, heh. I wasn't induced until a few days after my due date because of low amniotic fluid levels & the pitocin did nothing but get me to a 5   smurf you pitocin.

I had an OB for my first 2 babys and he inducedon both of them, come to find out, i didnt need it. with my 3rd baby i want with a Midwife and my baby girl was only 5 days past my edd and was 7lbs 10 oz. i think being induced is a docs way to make more money and a high % of woman who are induced end up getting a c-section anyway. but i would say if its not too late ask for a second oppion. and good luck.

yea. I saw "the business of being born" & it freaking scared me. almost half of women these days end up w/ c-sections   that is not normal...

i had a c secion and i LOVED it
it's always a pissing contest on this website about natural birth, no iduction, blah blah blah
declining a c section against your doctor's recommendation doesn't make you a good mother, it makes you dumb

my c section was a total dream. 10 minutes and i had my babies. complete recovery, very fast. no tearing, no waiing, no pushing, no contractions, no dilation of my lady parts to half a foot.
no risk of needing adult diapers at age 50.
i think everyone should get c sections. nice and simple.

no it isn't a pissing contest. I actually had one & it was awful. there are a few people like you that say their's was great, & that's fine, everyone has their own opinion. don't you at least find it wrong that a doctor wants to induce one week early & jump straight to a c-section ? the fact is, it is major surgery... & if everyone got c-sections, that would be awful.
