1 Year Old with possible RSV
posted 10th Jul '12
So DS got sick with a fever of 103.2 and I brought him to the hospital on 6/26- his only problem was inconsolable crying and a fever that didn't want to come down. The Drs said he was teething (which I personally do not believe).
On 6/29 I had an appt with his Ped and that morning he started wheezing really bad. She did a breathing treatment (Albuterol) and he seemed better... for 10 minutes. Then he got wheezing again. She did a 2nd treatment of the Albuterol and this time he seemed relatively ok. She told me to go to the hospital if anything got worse.
I began giving him breathing treatments at home every 4 hours, as prescribed by the Ped.
That night I took him back to the ER because his respirations were at 68 per minute (They should be between 25-40). They did yet another treatment and got his breathing down and sent me back home, telling me I could give him a treatment every 2 hours if I needed to and the ER Dr told me he thought it was RSV.
Its now been 11 days and his respirations are still high, his wheezing is still horrid, and the breathing treatments are doing jack smurf. I managed to get him into the Dr tomorrow and I am worried about what the next step is...
Any ideas? Or Advice? Is there a chance he will be hospitalized? Is it normal for this to have lasted 11 days?
This all kills me because he's obviously having trouble breathing but he is acting perfectly normal- eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, sleeping, playing, ect. Whenever his breathing gets above 50-55 we make him sit with us and relax and he gets to mad at us for not letting him run around and play.
This whole thing SUCKS!
