Hospital or home birth

posted 9th Jul '12
Me and my fiancé are getting married aug 17 and want to soon try for our 2.I really want to do a at home water birth with a midwive but he is so against it saying he wouldn't want to put his baby on danger like that.He wouldn't even let me explain to him why I feel this way.Has anyone gone threw this? I don't want to be hooked up to drugs induced or have pitocin I want a completely natural birth and I don't think a hospital can provide this..How can we agree on this he actually got very mad at me for thinking this..Has anyone been able to have the prefect natural birth at the hospital ?I know I have a while but I'm curious..Thanks ladies

What about a compromise and having a birth center birth with a midwife?

Have you tried showing him some documents on natural birth? Looking things up with him like Ina May Gaskin books, looking at documentaries like Pregnant In America or Business of Being Born?

Maybe explain to him all of the things that can go wrong BECAUSE of the hospital? I've heard alot of horror stories about doctors and stuff going wrong BECAUSE of the doctor.

I don't know if you have a midwife/hospital but that would be an option. Then it is like a home birth without the interuptions of a regular hospital gives. Then maybe he will feel better if it was done at a place where the hospital is right there but it is also done like a home birth. Not sure what they would call it but it would be done by a midwife. Not all states have these midwife/hospitals.

Do you know the member Rosamor? Her husband felt like that at the beginning, but he came around, and they recently had a home water birth. I can link you to her labor story if you'd like. It was BEAUTIFUL!

That's my next step buisness of being born is what opened my eyes up so I'm hoping him watching it he will want to experience that to.I would deffneftly do the birthing center I hope he opens his mind up it's like we're all just programmed to go to the hospital though so I don't blame him

I would just talk to him about it and tell him to read up on the subject. I didn't enjoy my hospital birth and for the next go round (if there is one) we have already discussed a home birth. He has his fears but I believe my husband trusts me on this.

Especially men. They don't want anything to happen to their child(ren) or their SO's but hospitals aren't as safe as they're thought to be.

Your welcome. A friend of mine did this with 2 kids with success and quick births. I had a csection with my first due to baby heart rate dropping as I contracted, but got a vbac with the 2nd child successfully. But I had both my kids in hospital since I would have had to drive almost an hour out for a midwife birthing center otherwise.

Thanks ladies so much I do have a while but bringing up the subject tonight wasn't that great. I'm definitely going to have to work on him but I will deffniatly compromise with him lets hope I can change is mind because let's face it hospitals aren't the best place to do a natural birth

My son was 6 weeks early and I had him in a hospital. I was high risk and I still did it all natural. I never had any drugs and I don't like the thought of the epidural because I have a fear of needles. I am now pregnant with my second and plan on doing it the same way. So, to your question about if you can do it all natural in a hospital the answer is yes. It just depends on what you can handle. I've also heard of many hospital's providing midwifes for those who want one. A friend of mine had a midwife and still had her baby in the hospital in case something did go wrong. All you need to do is maybe talk to your hospital and find out how they do those things. At mine, the doctor or midwife help you to set up a birthing plan which includes what kinds of medicines you want or do not want during labor and delivery. Hopefully you guys can compromise and have a midwife and still be at the hospital just in case.

It all depends on your OB. I have had a few friends have natural births in the hospital.
