Generally how early can a positive result be picked up before your expected period?

Twice now I've have sex with my SO w/o protection and I just have a strange feeling I'm pregnant...
My period isnn't due for another 8 days but its been reallllllyyy irregular lately too....
Last time with my DD I knew I was pregnant before testing so I'm anxious to find out! But don't want to waste money on a test

I am not sure how soon you can find out, I think it is different for everyone. So if you don't want to waste money wait another 8 days and if your period doesn't come.....TEST!

I got a positive test a few days before my period, but I would still recommend waiting until your period is due. Or go get a cheapie at the dollar store.

You can also get tests from the dollar store. They won't work super early but they're cheap and good to have on hand.

i went to the OB and they test for free.

It really depends on how strong the hormones are in the urine. If it not high enough it could have a false negative test for a while. So best to wait til you are truly late before testing so you don't waste money on the test. I got a friend who tested a week early and showed positive with her second child but her first child she didn't test positive til 8 weeks. Some women never get positives on urine test. Bare with it it is only a few more days.

i think most of them advertise as 5 days before your period you can get a positive, but the closer to your expected period the more likely you are to get an actual result (false negatives can happen if you test too early - my sister had 4 false negatives before getting a positive test).

my periods were always irregular too so i never knew when to test, i would just test around the time i got my period the previous month (even though i could get my period on the 3rd one month and on the 11th the next month, etc for no reason). if you're worried about spending money on a test, try a place like planned parenthood or somewhere that will do a test for free (thats what i did with this pregnancy) or you could get the dollar store tests - they're actually pretty effective and dont work as crappy as you would expect them too since they're only $1 (in fact, the test i took at the clinic this time around was the same type of test they sell at the dollar store)

What are you going to do if you are pregnant? If you are going to be happy from a positive i do wish you luck! If you don't want to be pregnant again. then I hope it is negative. but either way i wish you the best of luck! BTW I tested before my period came and it was positive.

We're not TTC but we're also not TTNTC lol.
I'd be over the moon if I was pregnant, but if I'm not I won't be bummed. I did a test this afternoon and got a negative result so maybe my 'pregnancy senses' are off haha. I bought a box of 3 tests so I'm going to do 1 closer to my expected period and then if it doesn't come the last one then.  

I found out with a dollar store one at 2 weeks... I didnt want to play the is that a line guessing game so i rushed and bought a digital one... It was positive. I found out right at conception i guess.... Ive known since i was 2 weeks... So this is a LONG pregnancy already! Lol

Yeah with my first I was the same found out at 4 weeks lol, but my hormone levels and the digital both said i was 10 weeks lol so it was suppperrr bummed when i had my first ultrasound lol.

Over here in AUS our dollar stores of bargain stores don't sell preggo tests
