Late walkers
posted 9th Jul '12
At what age would you become concerend if your LO wasn't walking yet?
Not that it's that late or anything, but DD is 13 old (going to be 14 months in a week) and she's not even close to walking yet. I could understand if she was standing, but she's not interested in doing that either.
If it makes any difference (not sure it would), she was born early - at 35 weeks even.

My youngest didn't start walking until 2.5 (SN) and my youngest started at 16 months.
Is she an only child?

my cousin started walking at 10 months, and 2 weeks later started crawling again because it was faster, she crawled til she was 15 months then started walking again

My nephew didn't start to walk til 15 months. I think that is still pretty normal. My oldest was walking at 9 months and I don't think that is normal at all.

My youngest didn't start walking till he was 14 months
But if she won't put weight on her legs i would call the pedi.

No, she has an older brother who is SN and he's 3 years old. He started walking on his own at 2 years old.

The CDC information suggests that by 18 months a child should be walking.ine didn't walk on her own until she was 16 months old.

My sisters daughter didn't start walking until 14 months. The doctor told her it wasn't something to be worried about until she was 18 months.

If we stand her against something she'll stay. She hates standing though. We try to lift her to where she puts her legs down, but a lot of times what she'll do is fold up her legs. Sometimes she'll lock her legs down (if that makes sense) and she's better than she used to be. She kneels and tries to get her one leg up to stand a little. Not to sound silly but does this all count as her putting enough weight down on her legs?

I remember the Pedi telling us about the 18 month thing too, but I thought there was something about them at least crusing or getting there by 15 months. I'm not overly worried but maybe only a little concerned.
But thanks for your input, ladies! It does make me feel a little better that my DD isn't the only one. =]

Don't let doctors scare you into something wrong unless child is 2 and doesnt try taking steps or stands on their own. Some kids walk much later and others very early. If you kid is meeting most milestones or close not way behind then nothing to worry about.

my son will be a year in a few weeks, and i think it will still be a while. his buddy, who is the same age plus 2 days, has been walking for months, so who knows whats "normal" lol. but, i see parents walking behind the kids, holding their hands, helping the child to "walk" and when i try to do this with my son, he melts. he absoultly will not stand if i try to make him. even when we are on the floor, playing, or changing clothes and i try and stand him up, he does not have it. he will stand on his own, while he is playing on the floor, he will just stand up, and dance a minute, and sit back down. or scale the couch, coffee table ect. but wants nothing to do w. me pushing it along!

My youngest ds was 15 months I wasnt concerned but I did get sick of everyone commenting that he should have been walking by his 1st Birthday. My eldest started walking at just over 10 months so I think everyone was comparing.

Sometimes knowing someone is in a similar position helps.. My dd is 14 months on the 19th and isn't walking either. She is cruising but she was not born early or anything.. I wouldn't be concerned yet mama.

Thanks! =] Well my children's Pedi is great and doesn't scare us about it. I've just been seeing a lot of others DD's age or even younger, who have started already. Not that I'm in a huge hurry or want to rush her, I just found myself thinking about it a little more.
