breast milk while pregnant...

posted 11th May
My boobs are really full and leaking and it's pretty painful. I'm 7 months and I'm just wondering if it's safe to express some of the milk/colostrum/whatever it is by hand to relieve my aching boobies. I've heard that it can cause early labor...so does anyone know?

I doubt you're truely engorged or anything @ this point - it's just something new that your breasts are going through so it's going to hurt regardless.. Just wait until your milk comes in hardcore! If you express some then you'll just be opening the flood gates and depriving your baby of that true colostrum cause if you express now, by the time they're born it'll just be regular breast milk..

And yeah, you don't want to take any chances bringing on contractions so early.. Just lay some frozen pea bags on your fun bags for the time being.. That's about all I can suggest, sorries

well they say that nipple stimulation can cause contractions, but I have actually ttried it for two days and it hasn't sent me into labor. Tey also recommend taking a warm cloth and putting in on your breasts. I am sure expressing a little bit of it to relieve the pressure will be fine. so long as you aren't massaging your nipples for hours at a time.

I'm sure they are not full of milk as milk doesn't come in until after birth. They may just be sore do to hormone changes similar to when you first got pregnant. Take some tylenol and place ice pack or frozen bags of peas on them. If still sore tomorrow, call your doctor

And FYI, you are 6 months pregnant, and in your seventh month

Last night I took a hot shower and as soon as the hot water hit my boobs they started to almost squirt out fluid...it was weird, but it felt much better afterwards.

yeah everywhere that I have read about breastfeeding said that if your breats are engorged to the point of pain, they recommend taking a wamrn shower or putting on a warm cloth before feeding. but yeah I do agree with what the other poster said about not losing the colosturm. Don't expres any, just get nursing pads to absorb it, and some tylenol.

FYI I'm having a baby in 11-12 weeks and really don't care about the specifics, but thanks
