Coughing at night

posted 9th Jul '12
My 15 month old has had the most awful cough for months. Every time I take him to the doctors I'm told he's just got a virus from daycare and hell get over it. There's no fever or noticeable breathing issues just this mucousy rattling cough ... He's fine when he's up and moving but as soon as he lies down for a nap or at night he starts coughing. There's no cough medicine I can give him before he's two and I'm not keen on demanding antibiotics.
I just don't know what to do anymore

sounds exactly like cameron.. from august to december/january he had a night time cough and his doctors would always tell me different smurf of what they thought it could be. even trying a humidifier and everything else they suggested nothing worked. they also said it was him catching different things from daycare. so for 4 months straight of bringing him back and forth to doctors, we never really found out what it was

It's so annoying they won't even listen when I tell him that it's been months, they keep telling me he's just catching one thing after another. You're not supposed to put heaters in kids rooms anymore but he seems to handle warm air better so I've just put this small electric radiator in his room. It's not fan forced so it shouldn't dry out the air

first they told me it was due to his ear infections and fluid draining while he was laying down.. they one said allergies, another told us he was just getting sick from daycare.everytime they wouldnt even do any real tests, just basic things which aggravated me. then just after xmas he got really sick, ended up getting a shot of an antibiotic and then about 2 weeks after that his cough went away and *knocks on wood* it hasnt come back

i went through the same thing with my son i was always taking him to the docs for the cough and it was mostly at night one time it was croup but then doctors said he had a post nasal drip so that would cause him to cough so i would give him zyrtec before bed and after a night or 2 that worked and he wouldnt cough for a few weeks...recently it started again zyrtec and natural cough meds didnt work took him to his doc.they totally ignored the cough issue and addressed his sore throat so i took him to the ER they prescribed augmentin which clears up any build up in ur chest and helped with his ear infection i would take him to the docs and mention augmentin go to the er if u have to u have to find someone who cares and will find a treatment that works good luck!
