what the heck?

Okay ladies, I'm still somewhat new with all this but I can't tell if my son is teething, allergic to his forumla, reflux, or just a fussy eater?

Lately he has not been taking his bottle and its starting to worry me. He USE to be able to eat 5oz every 3hrs now it's more like only 2oz! First he would take the bottle as usual then pull away (or push the bottle away) and start crying. Then he gets into the habit of chewing on the nipple with his back gums..and when I try to get him to take his bottle again, he would drink a litle and cry. This will go on for quite sometime..until I let him play for a little bit (maybe 10mins) and try to feed again. BUT even so, he never finishes his bottle anymore. He spits up but he had always been a spitter, but the way he arches his back when he cries and turns all red makes me think he has reflux or milk allergies..and how he bites on the nipples with his back gums makes he think of teething? The biting on the nipples just started recently but the back arching and crying and spitting up has always been happening.

Why cant I have a baby that chomps down like a garbage disposal? He's gaining weight just fine..but the way he eats just isn't right..

So help me with this please, what can it be?

My daughter does that and she is 5 months. I know my daughter is teething so she is a bit cranky. She fights me to sleep even though she is exhausted. Wants a bottle but wont take it, she just will sit there gumming on the bottle. Then she will start up crying again. She gets so mad. But I been through this before so it doesn't worry me. I'm not sure if that's what your baby is doing.

That sounds exactly like what my son does. Just a little more extreme with the back arching and spitting up the couple of drops that he consumed. However, he doesn't seem very cranky but lately hes been a drag to take naps. He would try to fight it as much as possible ..are there any other signs of teething? I haven't notice any swollen gums? Is that suppose to happen right away? And if he is teething, how soon can I expect them to pop up?

Oh yea my daughter does that thing with her back too she also kicks her little feet when she is mad too. Is he drooling a lot? Sometimes that is a sign as well. Try rubbing on his gums and see if he likes it. My daughter likes it. but once I stop she is back to crying, She also will only go to sleep when I lay with herbut even then she literally still fights me.

How old´s your son? My son used to do the back arching and spitting thing for a couple of weeks when he was 3 1/2 mos. (although he was and is BF). When I asked lactation consultants about it, they told me he was going through a phase called "lactant strike" (not very sure about the translation, I got it from the original Spanish version)

Did you take a look in his mouth?..my daughter did this when she had thrush it bothered her for about 3 days, she wouldnt drink from the bottle or the boob..so i used a syringe to feed her..only once though i guess that was the worst of it..

I don't think its thrush, I don't see anything unusual in his mouth. He just turn 4 months and has been eating out of wack for the last week and a half. Ive always had a feeling that the formula I'm feeding him isn't right since day one but when I told me pedi about his back arching, crying, spitting up (im feeding him enfamil lipil)..she told me its normal and he'll grow out of it..that was 3 months ago and yet he's still doing it. I really need to call hte office and talk to her again..
