Juicing recipes/raw food recipes

posted 8th Jul '12
- I wanted to start a thread where i post recipes of juices and some raw food recipes i make or want to make. Juicing is probably the most healthiest thing you can do for your body. If anyone juices or makes yummy salads, Please join and share!

- You will find that when you make fresh juice a daily part of your diet, you will have increased energy, a glowing complexion, strengthened immune system, stronger bones and a reduced risk of disease. It is recommended that you drink at least 16 ounces of freshly squeezed juice each day.
- No matter what your age, it is never too late to start drinking your fruits and vegetables. Juices can flush toxins from your body, are good for your weight, heart, circulation and overall well being. Juices contain no saturated fats or added sodium and can be helpful in lowering your cholesterol. (Always follow your pediatrician's advice when introducing babies to juice.)
- Remember: Apple seeds contain some cyanide, so be sure to remove the seeds before juicing. Do not juice carrot or rhubarb greens because of their toxicity. The skins of oranges and grapefruits also contain toxic substances, so it is not wise to juice them (however, the white, pithy part just below the skin contains very valuable bioflavonoids and vitamin C, so make sure you don't peel that away). The leaves of celery are often bitter, so you may wish to remove them. The skins of fruits such as kiwi and papaya should also be removed prior to juicing, however the skins from lemons and limes may be left on. Be sure to wash them thoroughly to remove any waxes and pesticides. All pits, such as plum pits and peach pits should be removed. Seeds from lemons, limes, grapes and melons etc. may be put into your juicer.

Raw food is fresh, organic, uncooked fruits, nuts, seeds, vegetables, sprouts and grains, fresh and ripe the way mother nature intended. Food in its most natural state, already custom-built to meet our nutritional needs, perfectly packaged for our consumption and with a whole new world of taste sensations just waiting for you to experience!

Juicing Tips:
  1. When you start juicing, remember to begin slowly so your body can adjust to the new way of eating. Gradually add raw foods and juices to your current diet.

  2. Apples can be mixed with all fruits and vegetables.

  3. Vegetable juices that taste "strong", such as spinach and beet, are high in compounds that should be consumed in small quantities. You can dilute these with milder tasting juices or water.

  4. We recommend using organic produce; if you are unable to find organic produce in your area, use a biodegradable soap or fruit/vegetable wash or the following recipe to remove poisonous surface sprays and pesticides: Fill your sink with cold water. Add four tablespoons of salt and the juice of one-half of a lemon (this makes a diluted form of hydrochloric acid). Soak fruits or vegetables for 5-10 minutes; 2-3 minutes for leafy greens; and 1-2 minutes for berries. Rinse well under cold water.

i just had a spinach blueberries smoothie.  with half bananna and little parsley too. it was YUM!!! But in my opinion putting Blueberries into a juicer is a waste. The motor turns too fast and sends the blueberries flying into the waste basket. a slower juicer like this Omega one
http://www.rawglow.com/omegavrt330.htm
would juice them better, but i would just stick to using them in smoothies.

Morning Spinach blueberry smoothie
- big handfull of spinach
-2 parsley stems and leafs
-1/2 bananna
-1/4c blueberries
-1/4 cup milk ( almond milk, coconut milk or organic milk)
1/4 cup ice
-1/2 cup water

I just purchased a refurbished powergrinder pro . Refurbished through the factory with a 1 yr warranty for 180$. A new one is like 360. So half the price because it was refurbished. its supposed to be the best thing out there right now in its price range. It even makes nut mulk and can't juice wheatgrass. You need a special juicer for greens and wheatgrass and soft fruit. The juicer runs on a slower speed allowing it to juice everything better. Most juicer run on the low speed at 6500 (rmp?) But this one goes even lower, to 3500. It also grinds the foods and nuts. My other choice of juicer was a breville elite, which you can get at Bed bath and beyond and you can get 20 % off their price with the bed bath and beyond coupon

i useed "juiceman" for 5 years and it just broke 2 days ago, so i have been researching all these juicers myself. So much has changed since we bought ours haha. i just ordered Powergrind Pro a refurbished one for 180$ with a warranty. Its a new juicer on the market that operates at lower speeds to extract more juice and it causes less exydation which makes the juice taste better and last longer. It also make nut milks and juices wheatgrass - which i grow.
My brother in law ordered a hamilton for like 60$ and is satisfied with it. i can only reccomend juiceman because ive had it for so long and it did great the whole time. Bed bath and Beyond carries breville and omega, both of which are good manufacturers and i ofund good reviews on both companies juicers that bed bath and beyond carries. plus you can get a 20% discount with the regular bed bath and beyond coupon. im sure you could print on on line. they always have the 20% coupon offer off 1 item .. hope i could help. Alsdo go on amazon and just put in juicer and look in your price range and check out reviews. that is something i did and i learend alot about each juicers pros and cons before decideing on which would be the best for us.
