what skills would you require them to have to trust them to help watch your child?

Patience, loving, caring, certifications of any sort, expierence what else?

A degree in Early Childhood Education or the equivalent (at least)
Updated First Aid Certification
3 good references (at least)

CPR certificate, but all Patient Care Associates have CPR license.
Background check and drug check (not skills, but relevant)
And...that's at.

A four year degree to babysit? Two years? Three references

Where is this world coming to....

For a special needs child...yes, that is what I would require.

Anyone who is watching my child needs to provide me with references and have experience.

ETA: In Ontario, ECE is only a 2 year diploma program...not a 4 year degree.

I would find it highly questionable
If someone with a degree wanted to babysit.. SN or
Not..

I don't find a degree very comforting it doesn't tell you much IMO...

For me CPR, multiple references, reliable transportation and a clean record (driving and criminal)

I'd have to watch them with my child for a whole before I could trust them

I looked up Stavros and what a PCA is. According to their website, "Stavros' Personal Assistance Services (PAS) program is often also referred to as the Personal Care Attendant (PCA) program. The PAS/PCA Program enables people with long term disabilities to live at home rather than in a nursing facility by providing the funds to hire attendant(s) who help with daily living activities like getting out of bed, taking medication, personal grooming and housekeeping."

So, it's more than just babysitting....

It's deff more than baby sitting but it depends on the person and thier disability but it's not like you sit there and do nothing you help them with what they need

That's what I figured which is why I said an ECE degree.
