questioning as to when kids can ride up front?

I know this is not my business but I am asking becaus I am now curious about when a child can ride up front. My friend has a three year old whom rides in a booster seat, but she puts her in the front seat because she says if she doesn't then her daughter will unbuckle herself and be all over in the backseat. So she puts her in the front seat to be able to stop her from unbuckling herself. Is she old enough to be in the front seat? I know it is not safe but is it illegal? I have never looked into this before because I never needed to, even when my child does ride in a booster they will be in the backseat for many, many years because I have been told it is the safest place. Its safer for them to be in the backseat but if they are in the front I believe the airbag has to be turned off because it can kill them

but I wouldn't put my kids in the front

you arent supposed to until they are 12 last time i checked. when my cousin was like 4 she was riding in front and her mom wrecked and my cousin got 4 of her front teeth knocked out

my kids will not be allowed in the front until there are 12 or 13

I'm pretty sure it's 12 but like carseat laws it might differ by each state.

I dont know if it depends on the state but here its not illegal as long as your front airbag is turned off. But really the back seat is the safest place.

If there are airbags, the age is 12. If not, it isn't illegal to have a child in the front as long as they are in their car seat/booster.

I believe in my state its 11 or 12 years of age. I would never put my 3 year old in the front seat. Its not safe and here its illegal and you can be fined and/or put in jail for endangering the welfare of a child. At least thats what I was told.

Maybe she should invest in a five-point harness.

If the car has a back seat, it's illegal. And the child isn't old enough to be in a booster.

I don't know the law in Kansas, but I know in Canada the only province that has any legal standings with booster seats is BC, however it is recommend that a child be in a booster seat until they 100lbs or 9+ years old. They have seat belt buckle covers your friend could get so her child wouldn't be able to un-buckle herself. Like the other poster said if there are airbags that child is in danger and it says right on most booster seats "not to be used in the front seat" they're just not designed for that type of impact

See, those two points you made is what I thought? But i wasn't 100% sure, that is why I asked.

She should probably not even be in a booster yet. My sister was not in a booster until she was probably 5 and she isn't a small child. She is 7 now and still in a booster and never rides in the front. I'm positive that a 3 year old should not be in the front seat, boosters aren't made for that. I actually heard the laws changed and no child under 13 years should sit in the front.
