Flashcards and more

posted 5th Jul '12
So I'm back in the same boat I was a few weeks ago.

Even though Jacob's teacher provided me with a very large stack of homework(enough for like a whole school year worth of work), he hates doing it and he can't focus to even try to do it.

So we've decided to purchase our own workbooks for him in the hopes that something different will help him. He really needs to be working on his school work because he has a learning delay and we're all afraid(including his teachers) that if he doesn't keep up on it, he'll loose it.

My husband is going to pick up some large Kindergarten and First grade work books while he's out and about today.

I'm looking for phonics flash cards, and sight word cards. I have made him some, but they're not colorful enough or brightly decorated to hold his attention. And I've tried simple bob books to help him reading, but too they can't hold his attention.

Any suggestions?

Does he learn from workbooks? One of the things you may consider is his learning style, especially if he's already struggling.

I know of some pretty good curriculum resources, if you're interested. Most of them are from homeschool companies, but I can try to round up some links if you'd like.

He doesn't like the sheets of paper that the teacher sent home from him. but I have a dollar tree phonics book and he REALLY like that on. I keep telling my husband that when he's just making us tell him so he can right it down then he's not learning. We have to find a style that works for him. He seems to be interested in the colorful work books, so DH is picking some up from costco.

I also purchased today his brush and a fidget tool to hook onto the chair and his leg. He doesn't like getting up after 5 minutes to take a break, he just wants to keep going which is more frustrating for me because by the end he's going absolutely crazy fidgeting all around
