Do you think some babies just measure behind?

posted 4th Jul '12
Do you think if you get an ultrasound before 12 weeks and the baby measures weeks behind lmp, do you think it's more t hat the baby is just measuring behind/growing slower/ultrasound isn't necessarily correct or you ovulated late? I keep hoping it's the case and not a missed m/c. And if you generally have a reg. cycle, and it shows weeks behind, is that worrisome? Or do not all babies develop the same that early like they say?

3 weeks behind.
So I guess I'm asking if ultrasound is correct in saying the baby is that age or he is just developing slow? Or what?

Early u/s are highly accurate. baby development stays on a pretty normal pace in the beginning. I mean a 6 week fetus and 12 week fetus look completely different. If it is a week or two off I would think late ovulation first. I hope maybe you just had a funky cycle and conceived late.

they are really going to need to do a repeat ultrasound and blood work to see what's going on and if the pregnancy is viable. i know that's not really any comfort, but no one can really say at this point. i'll hope for the best for you.

Ok.
Yeah, well, by lmp I'd be 13 and a half weeks about now but my early u/s was showing about 3ish weeks behind. They didn't say anything about it, and I don't know about my hormone level
they just gave me the due date

I mean, is it really possible to conceive that late in a cycle? To skip a period and then get pregnant AFTER? 3 weeks behind is a lot.

w my first pregnancy, i had had sugery, and me and dh only had sex once that month...3 days before my period was due, so i know for a fact, that was when he was conceived. i have 26 day cycles, and by no means is 3 days bfore af ideal o time, so very possible! if they didnt say anything, i wouldnt worry. i was very concerned and was asking a lot of questions about the differnce in due date and lmp this pregnancy, and they said not to worry. so im sure its nothing! good luck!

at 12 weeks, they should be able to hear a heartbeat with the doppler. if they don't, they will probably send you to have an ultrasound.
