Eating During Pregnancy.

I've heard that you can't eat lunch meat when you're pregnant and my mom says that she doesnt agree with that. She had five kids and we all turned out fine lol. Maybe I'm just a paranoid first time mom, has anyone else heard this???

Annnnd what are other things that I should definitely be avoiding?

I ate some lunch meat. Not a lot.... but it has to do with the chances of it being undercooked and such.
Tuna with high levels of mercury. Most fish for that matter.

Uhh, I don't think thats true. It sounds like a wives tale to me.

You're supposed to heat it up so that it's "steaming hot" because if you don't there is a chance you could get listeria(I think) it's not harmful really to adults, but it can harm your unborn baby. If you don't want to eat hot lunchmeat then just put in back in the fridge for a little bit.

ive heard it, but i still eat it, just sparingly.
i dont think itll hurt as long as you dont eat a ton of it.

and i eat hotdogs too, i crave them like crazy.
idk. just my opinion. nothing bad has happened to me or the baby.

OMG are you serious? I've eaten a few hot dogs. aggghhh it's really frustrating when all the info I got from the dr's office doesn't include this stuff. >:[[[

They say that because there's better and healthier meats out there.. But it doesn't do anything really.. And I've eaten hotdogs earlier earlier EARLIER on in my pregnancy like WHEW!! my baby's 7lbs 2oz inside me and strong and kicking well..

no its not a wives tale. heard it from a few people including a pediatrician. wen the deli cut the meat, they may not always clean the blade properly. bacteria begins to form on the blade and pass along to the meat. it kinda spooked me, but i love sandwiches. i dont eat them often tho. i think i would trust the packed meat before the over the counter deli meat. you never see them clean the blade at all. im a first time mother as well, and i think im over paranoid. lol i try not to be tho.

i think its ok to eat hot dogs, of course not many, but just as long as its heated up. cant eat it cold.

My doctor told me hotdogs are ok as long as you boil them or heat them in the microwave until they split(to make sure they are hot enough), just don't eat lots of them cuz they aren't the healthiest thing...

They say you are not supposed to eat packaged lunchmeat due to the danger of listeriosis contamination which can harm your unborn child, but if you HEAT the lunchmeat to hot before you eat it, it should be fine.
