honestly i never heard anything about it until a read it on here a few months ago (while i was eating a turkey sandwich! lol) My doctor told me that it was ok, which is good b/c i probably have a turkey sandwich at least 4 times a weeks, granted it's deli lunch meat that i am picky about which pieces actually go on my bread lol...she never told me there was anything i was suppose to avoid except the obivous coffee and cokes and things like that. So i'm not really sure..but i'm sure if you started looking online one place would tell you not to eat almost anything and another would tell you that it was ok lol.

Btw everything is PERFECT with my lil peanut, except that she is being stubborn and staying breech lol...

It's a recommendation - but its old school . The chances of listeria are rare these days , it was more back when they didn't process meat the way they do now .

It's really your choice , if you are worried ask your doc or midiwfe .
I eat hotdogs , lunchmeat whatever I feel like in moderation . Mostly its about not over doing it .

I always take my midwives advice ... they say ok so I am comfy eating it.

It says that is on the do not eat list in all of my pregnacy books i bought, but they also say that if you heat it to steaming hot it is fine and that usually the fresh cut kind from the grocery store deli is better than the pre-packaged.

I can't really say much because I'm pregnant with my first, too. But, my mother is my number one person I go to because she was pregnant with four children, and we are all healthy. I just asked her about this after reading everyones posts and she said that you are allowed to eat anything you would if you weren't pregnant. (Of course, some things are healthier than others.) She made me laugh by saying "The only thing you can't do is drink and do drugs." But, I'm pretty sure if you're worried about lunchmeat and hot dogs, you're not doing that.

Idk, I was told you can't eat EVERYHING you would because your baby doesn't have an immune system yet, and what our bodies can handle their body can't handle yet. Like a steak? It can't have any pink in it like a lot of people would chose to have it when they're not pregnant. Idk that's what i was told :]]

I was an assistant manager in a deli for a long time, and thats why I won't eat deli meat anyways. Unless it's prepackaged and a recognized brand.

I was also told to eat one can of tuna a week.

Sorry, I didn't actually read through every post on here. But it is true, about the lunch meat thing...BUT, it's more cold hot dogs and prepackaged stuff you need to be weary of. I get all my lunch meat in the deli and I have the ladies who work in there shave the meat off in front of me too. Tuna, is soooo good for the baby. All I ate in my first pregnancy was tuna fish sandwiches and scrambled eggs and taco bell...and there is a rumor that eggs cut down on the amount of pain contractions can bring you and possibly make the labor easier. My mother inlaw did that with all 7 of hers and I did that with my first one and My labor was a piece of cake. I was sleeping through the contractions. Sooo...I don't think it's a proven thing...but it is good for you and baby.

Ugh i can't even bring myself to smell tuna fish. Which makes me sad cause it is so good for the baby :/

prepackaged lunch meat is ok..its deli meat that you have to be leary of. The prepackaged stays refrigerated but the deli meat may not be kept cool. And don't eat raw hotdogs either. I've ate prepackaged lunch meat with all 3 of my pregnancies and have 2 very healthy girls and a healthy boy on the way and no complications.

Tuna is not actually that good for you...and you are really only allowed to eat a maximum of one tin per week...and no tuna steaks....so don;t feel that bad....try tinned or fresh salmon instead as salmon is good and has plenty of Omega-3's and it isn;t as stinky  ./

Do not eat Shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish. They contain mercury. If you want to eat fish...here is the list of the best fish to eat, Salmon, Sea Bass, Sole, Flounder, Haddock, Halibet, Ocean Perch, Pollack, Cod, Tuna (canned is better than fresh), and farm raised trout. That is all directly from the What to Expect when your expecting book. I was told by my doctor and several books as well, to eat as much as those types of fish as possible because they are sooo good for you and they help the baby's brain activity.

in small amounts it is fine...according to my doc, but she also told me to limit tuna to one can per week and not the steaks(especially albacore) because those are large fish that are affected by mercury also.... A little is fine though...I have a tuna sandwich a couple times a month  .
