First an apology for being soo late on writing this for you guys! Every new mom knows how that goes and how little time you get to yourself those first few days to write up something as long as this!
Well first, I was due April 28th or around there with my little surprise. The 28th came and went so I got to my appointment on May 1st and was booked in to be induced on the 5th with the gel, induced with IV on the 6th.
On the 5th I received a call from the doctor at 7am, wanting me to come in as soon as possible so we could get things going, rather than 4:30pm like I was susposed to. I thought, there goes my last day for sleeping in! I showed up at 10am, and was monitored for 1 hour. I was having contractions still, so they decided to go with the gel at 1pm. Instantly when they put the gel in, I got hard contractions and let me tell you, I felt these ones! Anyhow, flash forwards, 7 hours later after throwing up threw contractions that were strong in the front, then strong in my back with no breaks (the did not believe me), I begged them for something for the pain. I was refused epidural because of my tattoo on my back. They gave me a shot of Morphine at 8pm as my mom waited with me for another hour and half. I told her to go home, take care of the dogs and I would call her if anything happened. She didn’t want to go, but eventually did.
At 11:30pm after falling asleep for a bit, I woke up to the loudest sound I have ever heard. Kind of like a firecracker going off in my stomach. I leaned forwards and here game the flood. I paged the nurse to come in and told her my water broke, she asked if I was sure. Uhh yeah, I think I am sure! So the nurse checks to see if there is any change in my cervix, still none, only 1cm. She calls my doctor to come in and comes back to check again. I was up to 6cm in those few minutes and she pages the other nurse to come in right away. When the second nurse shows up, she says to her to check me because she wanted to make sure of something. She mouthed something to the nurse, she came over and checked and both of them went silent.
Five minutes later my doctor comes in and starts checking around, and leaves. NO one would tell me what was going on but I knew I should stay calm in case it’s anything bad. My doctor comes back in with about 7 nurses and sits down beside me. By this time I am in so much pain I can barely focus on anything. She tells me that I am dilated to 6cm but there is a problem. Apparently the umbilical cord is below the babies head and I am delivering the cord first, which is very dangerous and they have to perform an emergency c-section. She has the forms all there in front of me and was pretty much pushing the pen as I signed my name. Once I finished the last D in my name, I was rushed out of the room and into prep, 30 seconds later I took 3 deep breathes and I was out.
When I woke up, I heard the doctor telling a nurse that the baby was born, but not breathing and no heart beat. I froze, but she quickly said that they brought the baby back, and everything is fine. I then moved and they rushed over to me, the only thing I could ask is what the baby was. She then told me, you have a healthy baby boy, he is 7lbs 2 oz and 20in. HEALTHY! Healthy means he is ok! They told me that his head was cutting off his oxygen and they did not discover the cord problem in time and that he was a survivor that didn’t give up. Kaleb Ethan James was born at 12:10am, and I was back in my room with him at 1:10am. My mom was called but did not get there in time to come in with me, so she waited in my room and was the first to see Kaleb and hold him. She is IN LOVE with her new grandson, and hasn’t put him down since!
Myself, after having the emergency c-section I needed to have 12 staples in my lower stomach. They were supposed to keep me for 5 days, but since I was doing so well, they let me leave after 2 days. Kaleb is doing amazingly great, he left the hospital after 2 days weighing 7lbs 8oz, 6oz more than when he was born. He latched on instantly and is doing awesome with breastfeeding. I am pretty much back to normal, except for the staples of course but I feel great and am SOOO HAPPY with my little man!
Soooooo YAY girls, I got my little boy J He had a rough start, but I am soo happy and greatfull that he is doing soo well.
