Walking on a treadmill? (pregnant)

posted 4th Jul '12
I was told not to push myself 'too far' while walking on a treadmill, what's too far? I walk on the second slowest speed (if I go any slower I'm gonna trip over myself) and do it for 30 minutes in the morning, 30 minutes in the afternoon. But I feel like I could go on a lot more! As I do not tire out when I'm doing this. I used to walk for hours at a time outside in the heat and in the cold before I got pregnant..Do you think going on a little bit more would be safe? (My next doctors appointment is Monday, of course i'll be asking her, just wanting a some opinions!) No i''m not trying to lose weight, I'm eating how I'm supposed to, the 300 calories extra I'm supposed to, and I drink a lot of water. I just want to stay fit and not gain any unneeded weight.TIA!

At the begining i would go 3.4 (pretty good pace) for 30 minutes a day. Towards the end i went 2.4 (i would consider it a "stroll") for 39 min a day. Are you high risk at all (i was and therefore could not run)? If you are not high risk, then I would just listen to your body and if you think you could do a little more, slowly work up to what you feel would be a good pace.

I am not high risk! Maybe I could continue what I'm doing, then just after a few days bump it up to 45 minutes each time?

I think that would be fine (i'm not a doctor though, lol). I mean, back in the day, pregnant women would walk and work out in the fields all day right? lol. I think your body will tell you of it's too much.

Very true! And we are always walking somewhere anyway. lol. I will make sure to ask my doctor about it before I do anything different.   Thanks!

Before I was pregnant? I was able to walk a few hours each day, but then I quit because 1) I moved to the city 2) I got pregnant and a little lazy.

I would do no more than 2 hours a day, however you want to break it up. Just listen to your body. If you get hot or tired or out of breath or thirsty, take a break. If you trust your body and take it's cues, you'll be fine.
