bfing and weight
posted 4th Jul '12
I'm ebfing. Madeleine is now 4 months old and I haven't lost any weight. Smurf, I've gained weight everywhere read says bfing make you drop weight! Wtf, am I doing wrong? I take my vitamins and herbs, I walk almost everyday, I'm not over eating,( most days I have to force myself to eat) and when I do it its wholesome organic healthy foods. ( and hardly any meats, just mostly fish)
Maybe I need to work out more? Never had too before when I've dieted. Plus, I just don't really have the time my lo nurses so often its hard to leave the house. She nurses probably almost Evey hour! ( I have missing glands, so i don't make as much milk as I should)
Any advice? Stories? Same situation?
Oh and here's pics of my LO's....just because (well NM can't post pics, the thing to post the link in is gone!wtf?)

It sounds like maybe your lo is just nursing on foremilk if she is nursing every hour. Maybe try your hardest to get her to nurse longer and dont switch sides as fast. If she is not getting the fatty milk, then you are not loosing that fat/calories when you nurse her. Is her poop more of a greenish tint?

not everyone "drops" weight while bfing. I only lost the baby weight. eat right ( dont' skip meals) drink water and get movin! take baby for a walk. I know you said you walked, but maybe speed it up and walk longer.

My LO is 6 months. I'm the same as you. I read somewhere that with a small percent of women, it freezes your metabolism, but when you stop bfing, it starts back up, like your body is trying to keep weight on so that you can always have enough to produce milk. idk, I hope that's right. So that when it stop the weight falls off. lol

i gained weight too while EBF, i don't get it either, my LO nursed normally. Try eating smaller more frequent meals, walk as much as you can, and make sure you are getting enough sleep

I have always found if I didn't eat enough my weight wouldn't come off but as soon as I increased the amount of food my weight would come off. Some people just don't loose the weight while breastfeeding. I also only breastfeed on one breast per feeding to make sure my baby got the hind milk. Are you making sure your baby is emptying your breast completely before switching.

Not eating enough will cause you to gain/not lose. Make sure you are eating and drinking plenty.

Yes! This too! Your body will store up fat if you aren't eating enough.

This! Happened to me. When I stopped I instantly dropped 15 lbs.

I was the same....I breastfed for 13 months and wondered why everye was saying I would lose it all so quickly while BFing...but as soon as I stopped I lost most of it without even trying.
