Breastfeeding & Weight loss

posted 4th Jul '12
I need to lose weight.
I am a good 30 pounds overweight and I want to drop that as soon as I can.
I am not sure how to do it and ensure that I won't effect my milk supply.
I am starting the 30-day-shred again, tonight. That helped me lose weight last time I dieted. I want to cut out juices and just drink water, as well as start packing myself a lunch for work instead of buying something unhealthy, and pack small, nutritious snacks to have throughout the day.

The only thing is that I will probably be eating a lot less than I normally do. I've been moody lately and have been going on little binges. Totally, unhealthy, I know... but since my body is used to taking in more calories, will the diet change effect my milk supply?

I only bf for a short time with baby #4 but i would imagine that any change in diet is going to affect your milk supply. Talk to your doctor about how to lose weight while making sure your baby is getting what he needs from your milk.

It shouldn't as long as you aren't restricting your calories too much, I think there are a couple websites you can calculate your calorie needs that take into account breastfeeding, try sparkpeoplle.com maybe?

I want to eat the RIGHT amount of calories. Right now I am eating too much. Instead of eating for two, I'm eating for more like 5. LOL

Have you tried myfitnesspal? You can set it to a safe amount of calories for you while you're breastfeeding, and you log breastfeeding as well.
