Thats a ridiculous punishment haha. How about you have an adult conversation with her, explain the rules of your house and tell her she is expected to follow them and respect you while she's staying with you.

Well, I'd say don't let her go outside and instead she needs to remain in your home. Have her help out with chores and don't let her watch TV or get on the computer unless it is school related.

I'm no help but I saw a boy on the side of the road holding a sign that said I lie and steal from my parents! It was a pretty busy road but he was in the parking lot of his parents business! I saw him and he made the online news

She has no phone, she's in a city where she doesn't know anyone at least to my knowledge at the time, it's dark and storming. No way to get a hold of her, no way for her to get a hold of me or the police god forbid something happens. I'm not going to let her think it's okay just because she is 2 years away from being an adult.

I did, the entire time she was laughing and joking like it was nothing and the rules don't apply to her.

Considering, I was living with a meth dealer, not going to school, etc. when I was 16, I think swimming at a friend's is fine.

Treat her like a child and she will continue not to be upfront with you.

I'd use time out 16minuites till I decided what to do and had calmed down. I'm not sure what i'd do...but I would put ground rules in place for next time she comes to stay.

16years nearly a legal adult?? That's still a child, hear it is 18years old.

I saw it online once... not the boy but someone else! LOL I thought it'd be a good thing... I don't know how to punish a teen.. I have 14 more years before I get there!

If she has a phone, take it away. Don't let her out of the house. Make her sit in her room. Make her do all the chores around the house. No tv. No computer.

I mean I understand your concern---if my 16 year old sister went off on me like that, I would freak out.

If she didn't act like a child, she wouldn't be treated like one. When she is in my care and is my responsibility, no matter what she is doing or where she went, taking off like that is NOT okay no matter how old she is. If she can't be mature enough to say hey, I'm going to go to so and so's for a while, then she is not mature enough to be treated as an adult.

Well according to your profile you're only 18 and you're her sister so I can see why she probably doesn't take you seriously. I don't think its appropriate to "punish" her though.
