102.5 fever... Help!

posted 3rd Jul '12
My son will be 1 on the 5th and today he woke up with a cough and a fever I took him to his pedi this afternoon and he told me to give him tylonl for his fever and to make sure the cough doesn't get worse. But about 15 mins ago I noticed he was, super hot again and I just have him.tylonl about an hour and half ago and it helped for a bit but now his temp its up to 102.5 should we bring him to the er or wait till we can give him more tylonl? When I say we me and my husband.
TIA

Give him a luke warm bath and don't put any clothes on him. See if you can cool him off naturally. Most doctors say don't be concerned until the fever reaches 104-105

you can piggy back tylenol and motrin if the tylenol itself isn't helping. what's more important than the actual number is his attitude. as long as he's coherent and alert, etc. since tylenol is every 4-6 hours, I would give him a dose of motrin half way before you would give him more tylenol (so if you gave it to him at 8pm, give him motrin at about 10ish, then another dose of tylenol at 2am if he's still hot/awake) Drinking as much water/pedialyte as possible will also help. more so than food, so don't panic if he really doesn't want to eat. Hope he feels better soon, my 6 year old has been feverish for days now and still hasn't kicked it on her own. she's living on motrin and water.

This!! Also they generally won't be too concerned even if it is that high if it is temporarily coming down with medicine. A fever is a good thing. It is his body fighting off something.

99.5 isn't a fever hunny. That is normal body temperature still. Also try pedialtye.   Water won't keep him hydrated as well.
