Death and the Afterlife

Do you believe there is an afterlife?

Why, why not?

What do you believe the afterlife is?

I am not sure. On all counts.

I don't believe human beings retain consciousness after death. The body decays, what happens to the energy, I don't know, maybe it could be called a kind of after life but not in the way we view life.

I believe in enlightenment and a universal spirit that you join with after many generations of life. I think only a few people have earned enlightenment in the recent times.

i believe theres an after life.. but I dont really have a guess on what it will be like.?

I believe we are reincarnated to pay for wrongs we have committed. For example, if you kill someone in this life, you will be reborn as the loved one of someone who is murdered.

Once you "get it right", or die as a child (whom I believe cannot sin), you will go on...

to where, I'm not sure. I imagine eternal peace.

I believe in eternal life :-).. Heaven and I think it's gonna be wonderful :-)

This reminds me of how it is explained in the Dark Materials books. (Golden Compass, etc).

When Lyra opens a doorway from the underworld into the regular world the spirits energy is able to release and become part of the whole "universe" so to speak.
So they are alive, without actually being alive.

I have some loony theories about life I'd like to check out in a lab if I can ever get the money to go back to school.

Oh they are excellent books. A few of my favorites actually. There was a huge controversy about them being "anti-christian" but they really aren't, not in the way the religious buffs tried to make it seem.

I'm curious about people's thoughts on this because, quite frankly, it scares the ever loving piss out of me. I tend to have panic attacks when I think about the afterlife and what is to come, or not come.
