Depo shot!

I got the depo shot yesterday.
I'm just wondering when I should notice any side effects?
My doctor said headaches, mood swings and breakthrough bleeding can be common. Would I be dealing with that already?

I'm breastfeeding and haven't yet got a real period, so I'm hoping I just won't have one altogether.

I got the depo shot a while ago, hated it! It made me gain weight, which is amazing because nothing else ever has. I even lost almost all of my pregnancy weight within a few months and I STILL have not lost the weight I gained from getting the shot. I had my period for three weeks, went off for one and then three weeks again. I was miserable, Did not do it twice, lol.

ugh, and weight gain, abnormal hair growth etc.. google the side effects. It's horrible for you. Plus.. does he have you taking calcium and vit D supplements? It causes osteoporosis.

Weight gain, headaches, mood swings, no period, and zero sex drive.

That smurf smurfed me up.
I got one shot and then quit. I had no period for two years and was infertile for the whole time.
ETA: and horrid weight gain.

It doesn't cause osteoporosis. If it wasn't safe to be taking, it wouldn't be on the market. Of course there are going to be side effects to everything, but that's the risk you take. For me possible weight gain and breakthrough bleeding is minimal compared to an unplanned pregnancy at this point in my life.

Im just wondering if it's going to cause these things in me, when I should start to notice it. For example- the bleeding... would it have started by now?

i also hated the depo shot   i only got it 3 times and it took a year after the last shot to get out of my system and for me to have a cycle again. I also gained 20lbs that i couldnt get rid of no matter how much i exercised and ate healthy! the headaches started about a week after my 1st shot but since i have horrible sinus issues i thought mabe that was the problem. But after i stopped the depo my headache cut down by atleast half. Hope u have a better experience w/it.

it's actually PROVEN to cause osteoporosis... drs are supposed to prescribe high doses of calcium when they start it. And.. lol.. seriously.. we're talking enough weight gain and loss of sex drive you wonn't have to worry about if it works or not. I gained 8 lbs with every shot.. and started growing toe and stomach hair.

side effects.. started with me in about 2 weeks.. and got WORSE with each shot. My doc made it sound like it would just be while my body adjusted.

oh.. and optical migraines.. I'd suddenly without notice go blind... where I'd have black spots in my line of vision.. smurfing scary when iw as drivingt and had to find somewhere to pull over because I couldn't see.

That's rare. Any birth control can have effects like that. Mirena for example has a lot of the same side effects. Not everyone gets them, and with any birth control you take... it's a risk you take. Some people love it, some people hate it. My question was not how awful it was for you... it was simply how soon you'd see side effects, which you FINALLY answered.
